I think Canales will be ok. Amongst the guys we were looking at, he probably had the highest floor but also the lowest ceiling.

I think that is a fair way to assess him.

Yea I agree with that Mock. Thats a really good way to put it. Just wonder why CJ couldn't get on someone that has a lot of success with QB?

So you are saying that Butch created the appearance of wanting a different guy and timed his desired hirings with the announcement of that other guy, just to appease the fans? This also includes putting off the announcement of his OC (That we all knew was happening) for a while.

Instead of believing that Butch just missed on his first choice and thus immediately named his B option.

Ever heard of Occam's Razor?

Is that part of the shave of the month club?

I think you need more fiber in your diet. Maybe a good BM will improve your disposition.

North Carolina State finished 11-3 and ranked 12th in the final AP Poll in 2002, averaging 392.0 yards on offense. The offense featured a 3,000-yard passer in Rivers, a 1,000-yard receiver in Jerricho Cotchery and a 1,000-yard rusher in T.A. McLendon"

From front page. Canales was QB coach

Canales has like three decades as a coach and probably 2/3 of that as a QB coach. He has several AA, several All conference, and Philp Rivers on his resume. Plus he has worked with our new OC CLS so the staff should have good chemistry. What more do you want?

Scott is a great recruiter. In fact, he's better than Debord. Canales can't be any worse than Debord at recruiting, and his position consists of coaching the qbs. The qb position coach was held by a GA last year so we should see some improvements in this area considering his 30+ years in football. We have no clue where the offense will go next season, but it's still the same offense. Scott is a hungry young coach, and he will most likely give his all to make sure he succeeds. I think he will most likely take a more aggressive approach than Debord to play calling. A lack of aggressive play calling is what most likely lost us some games last year in combination with horrible defensive play. I can only see these staff changes as a positive at this point.

He doesn't know. All he knows is that he made up his mind on any member of this coaching staff. He probably won't be happy with anything short of CBJ leaving.

The staff changes are positive for sure. Butch has done a great job of evaluating the staff and making changes.

Canales is likeable so I'll give him a chance. Seems more real than Butch when he talks to media. Guess can't really complain about Shoop not being allowed to bring in his guys last yr and not want same for Scott. Canales will be on his side regardless.

did Walt Wells work with Scott at USF too?

So BJ had to promote Scott to keep him from bolting, perhaps, because he's been our best recruiter even though we aren't having that great of a recruiting class in terms of quality compared to many prior classes. Makes about as much sense of some of the other decisions he's made.
