Clarity on this AD situation: The speculation is it's a combo package of Fulmer and Blackburn correct? One or both will share the AD duties? This stuff gets more confusing everyday!
It gets more confusing because the damn media keeps guessing and then backtracking when their guess was wrong.

Tee was never coming here. I don't know what the realistic chances were of keeping Pittman, either. Our offense was great this year, so it is hard to argue that Canada would have been better, though he was also fantastic at Pitt.

Tee came with an open mind that was quickly closed when he realized his interview was nothing but a show from Butch.

If he'd been honestly pursued as a top level assistant of his nature should be, he might be here right now.

Any order of Blackburn + Fulmer is a grand slam as far as I am concerned. Make it happen. Let's get this done and get to work on becoming elite again.

I would recommend setting your expectations that we will hire Rupaul and Caitlyn Jenner to avoid the likely disappointment coming

lol. Yeah - I'm trying to hype myself into believing that just one time they will do something right without personal agendas getting in the way.

You know this how? How high up in our Athletic Department are you that you could hear first hand from Butch and other coaches that this search was predetermined?

You are just creating a narrative that fits with your current, distraught, emotions. Canales was not my first choice either, but when has Butch made a bad hire since his original staff?

It's pretty obvious if you look at the interview candidates that the is and always was going to be Canales. Otherwise he would have interviewed a more diverse pool than 3 inexperienced NFL guys and one FCS guy to go along with Canales. Otherwise he'd have interiewed at least one person for the OC spot. But he didn't.

If it was an honest coaching search, he'd have at least talked to a few bigger named guys and a more diverse field of candidates. He was always going to go Scott/Canales. Always.

I never said it's a bad hire. Just a bad interview process and coaching search.

My vote ...
Blackburn - UTK AD
Fulmer - UTK ambassador/consultant (see Spurrier @ UF)
Gilbert - UTC AD (if he is the hot item that some say. Let him earn his AD stripes)

So, I would love to have Durden but I think there are roadblocks that keep that from happening. Weinke may be great but he has very little coaching experience, none at the college level, and we have no evidence that he can recruit. O'Connell seems content to wait for an NFL opening, probably because the recruiting requirement doesn't appeal to him. So that leaves us with an experienced QB coach that has several successful QBs to point to and say I helped coach them at the college level and one has had great success in the NFL. Kids don't know who Weinke is any more that they know who Canales is. I think Canales is the overall best choice for Butch, the staff, and the development of the QBs.

I agree with pretty much everything here but the last part. Short term, yeah Canales might be best because of his familiarity with Butch and Scott. Long term, no way there isn't someone better Butch could have brought in.

Canales is a good hire to help Butch avoid tanking and fired in 2017. Long term, he's pretty meh.
