Hmmm so we should be impressed by those accomplishments at powerhouses like Utah State and USF? Alrighty then. We should all be impressed by mediocrity.

Considering he coached the QBs that currently hold school passing records, yes, that's probably something to take into consideration for a QB coach.

He has coached spread for several years before and has familiarity with the staff. Not my first pick but this decision could be great or cost Butch his job.

Have no choice but to support the guy but sheesh...not the usual career progression if a coach has a lot of potential?

CAnales is the experienced choice and the safe one.

I want a coach that has a higher ceiling as Canales experience shows little success but maybe it works out.

I just don't see making a post on a discussion board about not liking a hire as jumping into the bowels of hell. I think it's a low ceiling type of move, and with our talent level dwindling, I wanted to see a major shot in the arm. Weinke doesn't excite me either, but like I said, going the Scott route hems you in.

Happy to be wrong.

Where is talent dwindling? Right DE? CB? If this coach can show QD/JG/SJ the right technique, footwork, and decision making then it's a good hire. Compared to anytime during this or last season and 80% of us would be happy to just have a QB coach.

Pretty much everywhere except the OL.

Lol. This guy has climbed the ladder and fallen down it a couple times. Sunseri only got one chance

You say Canales is no good bc he's not "won" (even though he's not a HC!)

His coaching experience is bad experience bc of this.

Meanwhile the two stooges Dooley and Sunseri had plenty of "good" coaching under Nick Saban. We were the worst in the teams history under that watch.

Your theory holds no water. If he can coach, he can coach. Butch has been okay in making coaching adjustments.

You have to admit. Many were not just simply making a post on a message board. They jumped feet first right into the middle of the devil's a**hole. :)

My personal preference would have been O'connell btw.
