People are going to create controversy however they can to fit their narrative. "This guy has only coached at N.Texas, he has to suck." We could of had a former heisman trophy winner. He hasn't coached my, but who cares! I just know recruits will flock to him.
Give me a guy that has worked hard in tough places and had some success any day of the week. They appreciate the big cha cues when they come and aren't out the door chasing the next shiny thing. Canales will be fine. I am glad he is on board.

Yeah ok. So how about list the actual QBs he has developed? You know recruits will flock to him? Why? Because he tore it up at North Texas? Stop acting like Canales is some kind of big name thats got the attention of many big time programs. I would much rather have Weinke or Dorsey.

Lol

Winning matters unless you want to say Jim Chaney was one hell of an OC here

Winning record does not matter in the case of hiring a QB coach.

By this logic, Weinke would be a worse hire than Canales. Rams went 4-12 this year.

See how moronic that sounds?

True. I once went Golden Sound in Nashville, which I go to occasionally, but didn't notice the coffee that I ordered was $10. For 12 ounces. It hurt deep inside me, but to be fair it was the best coffee I've ever had. All in all still kinda mad about it.

Haha is that the Gulch location?

Looks like he went to smaller school to get OC/springboard to HC. Let's judge him as position coach

And literally the only good thing to judge him
On in Phillip rivers. Nothing good since then and his next job was a RB coaching job. He didn't even keep coaching QBs after Rivers.

I did clarify that I did not necessarily mean your opinion, but rather than write all of that into several posts, I consolidated into one.

Weinke coached Jared Goff for a year...and is now out of a job.

As I stated back in one of my earlier posts, Canales isn't who I would have preferred either, but just because it isn't who I prefer does not make it a bad hire. I'm not going to bit** about him being a bad hire unless he proves himself to be a bad hire.

It's not sunshine pumping to refuse to jump into the bowels of hell without cause. Right now, we have no cause.

I just don't see making a post on a discussion board about not liking a hire as jumping into the bowels of hell. I think it's a low ceiling type of move, and with our talent level dwindling, I wanted to see a major shot in the arm. Weinke doesn't excite me either, but like I said, going the Scott route hems you in.

Happy to be wrong.

This is the kind of info that should be paid attention to, not what the team's overall record is.

We're hiring the QB coach to coach the QBs. Win/loss record is on the HC.

Hmmm so we should be impressed by those accomplishments at powerhouses like Utah State and USF? Alrighty then. We should all be impressed by mediocrity.

But, but he coached QBs at Utah State and USF to all time leading passers. And obviously Canales was the only reason Rivers was any good in college.

Give a man a Ferrari and another man a bicycle. Tell them to race.

It's apples to oranges. You can't say the athletes at North Texas compare to Tennessee.

Saban almighty would lose games at North Texas. People on here complaining that if UT had the resources Bama did we would be more successful. You can't turn around and compare a coach that has limited resources at a school like North Texas to a power 5 school.

If it is announced then its water under the bridge. Get on board or wait it out and say I told you so later. Don't pretend you know what will happen with a coach that is finally getting athletes to work with.

He coached a kid that wasn't even a year removed from college. Team had a horrible season. He's out of a job. By the standard everyone seems to want to use in this argument...that makes him worse than Canales.

Not sure where the big difference comes into play between NFL and College QB coach in this instance. He coached a college age kid one year, sucked, and lossed his job. Right? Team record says he sucked.
