How can we be the laughing stock when you have Baylor and now Oregon? We didn't hire somebody fast enough...big deal! Have a coach cover up gang rapes and a strength coach destroy your athletes kidneys and then take a number.

Talking about admins effort in this particular situation. Go back and look at our history on coach hires and AD hires, then maybe that thing called reading comprehension will kick in.

How long does it take to zero in on the one you want? Oh wait let's use 2 search firms and waste more money or let's hire someone as incompetent as the rest of the admin at UT

Whatever happened to Corker OV'ing this month? I haven't seen anything on him at all.

I think he still is but prob doesn't want to talk about it since he is committed to Ky or maybe he is doubling down on his cousin needing an offer and we are saying peace out

Bama knew they were looking for an AD before Tennessee yet that wasn't publically known. They now appear to be organized and quick in their search. Tennessee would have been better suited for Hart not to have made his departure public.

Is this part verified?

UT still new he was leaving months ago bc his contract wasn't renewed. Why not start the search then? It's not like we were all shocked he was on his way out.

For those that don't understand the big deal place yourself in the person's shoes.

You have worked to become an accomplished professional in your specialty in your industry with much upside to your career. You are highly respected in your current job and can stay in it and do well. So should you take a job for substantially more money for a boss who doesn't know who his boss is going to be, when there are other equally interesting job opportunities with employers who have solid top leadership, are financially sound, and are industry leaders as well? Should you uproot your family for that new boss that is fairly or unfairly ridiculed by national analysts and when his supervisor's role is vacant? Not to mention you have observed there appear to be several other new openings on your prospective boss' staff that may make it a bit bumpy with relationships for a time. The new person hired above your boss in the future may not develop a good relationship with your boss. In your industry that would mean that most likely you would have to find another opportunity and move again soon.

Of course that's what the new assistant coaches have to deal with in addition to what Butch has to sell over to try his best to improve the staff so he can improve his existing standing. All while opponents are using the situation to blow him and UT to bits on the recruiting and hiring trails.

While our stupid leaders bicker for months over filling a role that should have been planned out and executed before the 2016 season began. They are 100% at fault for how things are now and get zero credit if Butch pulls out this mess and moves the program forward.

Pretty clear to me they fired cheek and hart to satisfy title ix witch hunt

I assume it did start to some degree but with the new Chancellor having to be hired that had to run its course as well. My point is Bama didn't hire someone overnight.

That was good! Was wondering when someone would comment on that, it's usually me, so I appreciate you doing this time..

Glad you enjoyed. I'm not really a grammar Nazi, but the mental picture I got was too funny not to respond.

Cheek was inept. It was one blunder after another.

Hart had worn out his welcome. Made too many enemies.

I think the title 9 deal ended the moment we settled the lawsuit.

I agree and wasn't arguing with you. Sorry if it came across that way.

Tennessee finished with 6 commits in the Top 247. Smith was at #5 overall. Jordan Murphy also jumped over 100 spots to #232. The funny thing is Chandler(#77 down 17 spots), Gray (#140 down 7 spots), Reid (#240 down 2 spots), and Ignot (#115 down 15 spots) all dropped spots. It seems that if you commit to Tennessee your ranking is going to take a hit. I swear they stop scouting these guys when they commit to us.

I'm not taking sides in this argument but...when your defense, of whether this university is the laughing stock on the sports world, is to reach low enough to compare our school to Baylor's predicament...that's never a good thing.

Exactly. Once it was settled, we didn't even hear about it more than a day or two, then nada.

You're right, but it would appear Bama had an executable executive resource plan in place and they were able act on that plan when the time arose.

Well run organizations have executive development and transitions plans in place, typically within a year of hiring. UT should have had a plan for replacing Cheek and it should not have been a inhibitor for selecting an AD.

I think this is the point some are making.

Its like trying to find a new CEO of McDonald's. You might hear about it but you don't really care. We as Volnation care but everyone else doesn't. They don't think of this as big hire (which it is) but people would care more about if a head coach was being replaced

The other issue is that Battle is truly retiring. Hart is not. I don't know why you let a guy like that hang around for over a year. My Dad was in upper management in a former Fortune 500 company and always told me that when someone was leaving, you pay them the severance and send them out immediately. A lame duck employee doesn't help much.

The rest of the country is not even paying attention to our AD hire fiasco. We need to get over ourselves a little bit.

The rest of the country are not fans either. Also they most likely don't realize the ridiculous blunders UT has made over the years.

It's all of it together

I'm with Kingston Vol. I don't see the big issue with there not being an AD named right now. I'm amazed at just how many people on VN are so bent out of shape on this.

SIAP, but I think if you aren't ready to hire the new AD then you keep quiet about Hart retiring/leaving. Everyone wants to be first with breaking news and honestly I feel everyone wanting to be first is giving us a bad look. Reporters take the first whiff of something here and take it as truth. I cannot stand Bama but the way they handled their AD situation is the best way to do it.

How many in top 500?
