It is about to come full circle.

This was a crazy ride. It was always supposed to be DB.

But in the end I actually think we got this right.

Wow...this is crazy! Glad to see that Phil loves TN so much, that he's willing to come back as the AD to help restore so many programs to greatness again, hopefully, but especially football. Kudos! I still remember him saying in his "resignation" speech that he "loves her too much to divide her". Well, Phil, it's time to come back and re-unite her! LET US GO!!

Also, where is eazyTD??? He said a long time ago that the way is being paved for Fulmer to AD. I sure would love to hear his insight as to what all has happened to get here. Or maybe eazy is Fulmer?

Doug Matthews all but said this would happen on his Sunday show. He left enough room to think it could be Blackburn but it wasn't too hard to read between the lines.

After reading some posts by LWS, I really think Fulmer as AD is the only possible move that may be able to win over all the boosters over time to re-unite TN. We need a TN boy to do it...check. Blackburn has some prominent boosters who are against him, it seems, due to him speaking up and heavily being against the Dooley hire, among other things...obviously, Blackburn was spot on with his assessment. I think Fulmer is the only one who can "rally the troops" and lead our athletic programs in the same direction. We shall see.

And if something happens with Barnes and Fulmer has to make that hire...uh oh.

Why is it, uh oh? Barnes will likely only coach a few more years. We have no direct knowledge of how Fulmer will do with any hire. Just because Dickey hired Wade Houston does not mean that Fulmer will hire someone like that.

Over/under on doughnut references in the FF forum over the next 24 hours.

I'm saying 805.

Go.

Pumpkin references will abound, also. It is exceptionally sad that our own fanbase will take the derogatory names that our rivals apply to our coaches and use them also. I just don't see how people could spew such hatred and profess to be a Tennessee fan.

Did Fulmer fire anyone besides Randy Sanders his whole career? I assume he won't be the one making those decisions anyway. I like Phil and am greatful for what he's done for the university. But this hire doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. This has puppet written all over it.

Why would you ever think that? He doesn't need the money and he loves our school. He is not beholden to anyone on the BOT and is much respected by his peers. I think most of the disrespect comes from his own fanbase, even moreso than some of our more idiotic rivals. Some of our rivals will laugh at this hire. I am going to predict he is going to do a very good, if not, great job. He will be energized and we know he is committed.

I believe Peyton had more influence on this hire than most people realize, not sure how much influence Davenport had, for people around their program Phillip was probably an easy choice, but for a new chancellor to make their mark on the program I'm not sure this was it.

Not saying he should have fired anyone just saying he's never had to do it. Hard to detach yourself emotionally and make those types of decisions. No doubt he'll have to now.

Let's not forget, this is the man who took Johnny Major's job after heart surgery.

I love Fulmer, but I don't think he's a soft hearted puppet.

The coaches Fulmer had around him are some of the most respected in the country. I have no fear about who he will hire. Even his "bad" hires like Clawson turned out to be very successful elsewhere.

Ok, in the years since his resignation, Fulmer was working with (or helped start/build, whatever the case) a financial/capital management firm, correct?

I remember at one point I heard a lot of their clients were coaches and/or athletes. Was that the case?

Seems like he would be a hell of a lot of good connections.
