He is a Vandy grad and was formerly the beat writer for the University of Memphis at the CA. He is on Memphis radio every Friday. Just like most of these type guys, he has strong opinions and a little bit of arrogance.

He's trash. The Bum that reported Kiffin to Houston

Fulmer didn't run the program into the ground. He got lax in recruiting and was trending down. One year removed from Eric Ainge hitting LSU DB between the 1 and 3 on his jersey to lose the SEC Championship.

Mike Hamilton buried us alive with his ineptitude.

I'm convinced all of our troubles started with the 2008 recruiting class. That class- full of three stars- absolutely killed us. Then on top of that, the 2009 class almost completely washing out and Kiffin trying to see how many people he could run off- still irritates me.

Bingo

Add to this Hamilton completely botching the hire after Kiffin and here we are.

Panic caused knee jerk reaction. Should have rolled with Kippy until we had the right guy.

SBV is Blackburn completely out of the running now? It looks like Fulmer will be the guy- did this come out of left field just recently or have some boosters wanted him all along? I would rather have Blackburn- but would take Fulmer above any other outside person hands down.

I remember Fulmer had a solid class lined up for '09 before he got fired. Most of those guys decommitted and Kiffin salvaged what seemed like a good class at the time. I always wondered if things would have turned around with the class Fulmer had lined up.

I did not follow recruiting in 2008. I just went back and looked at the class. It's really bad. I had completely forgotten about EJ Abrams-Ward. I went to see what he was up to nowadays, and it's not pretty. He was arrested on cocaine possession in November 2016

Yep. I believe our lone four star.

Apparently Will Neely (Sophomore Vol Baseball Pitcher from Hardin Valley) lost his mother over the weekend. If praying is your thing, I'm sure he could use them.

It wasn't so much the hires as much as it was the Butch type meddling. I mean look at Randy Sanders now? He had one bad year but he coached our national title game win so of course he was getting that job. He had some nice offenses with Casey Clausen. The mistake came in the QB shuffle between Ainge and Clausen. Sanders was scape goat and Phil could pull Cut at time.

Clawson was too much of a drastic change for the personell. Obviously we see why he hired him the guy has went on to be HC at Bowling Green and Wake Forest. This wasn't really a bad hire but a bad fit. He had Petty and Boyd lined up when nobody wanted them then both blew up after Kiffin let them go

So both guys have went on to have great success. I'd say Fulmer knew how to hire dang good coaches. Dan Brooks has been a beast at Clemson. Cut is a star. Chavis continued to shine elsewhere.

Great point.

The downfall was about recruiting and dated system with Fulmer, but it started well before the last couple of years. That's just what brought it to a head. He got too comfortable and unmotivated as a HC to keeping the main thing the main thing. Don't really see his downfall as a negative to him being an AD. In fact it can be beneficial because it has taught him valuable lessons of successes and failures he can use and give to all sports coaches under his supervision.

His downfall is he didn't adapt how recruiting to the new competition. He was used to be able to pull stars out of Ga, SC, NC, KY and basically just get a majority of who he wanted from surrounding stats to make up for poor instate talent but then he also ignored instate talent too much that those guys snuck away. Then Richt gets hired at UGA closing those borders during his early run. Then Spurrier gets hired at SC then Butch Davis to NC. Three key states all of sudden weren't so easy to recruit anymore

There are definitely some concerns with Fulmer as AD that you probably wouldn't have with Blackburn, but I think that Fulmer has done some things since he left coaching that maybe he's not getting credit for.

Sounds to me like what's needed most is someone who can get the UT admin and the big $ to quit pulling against each other and start pulling in the same direction and provide some stability. If Fulmer is the man to do that, then I'm all for him as AD.

I would be much more excited about Fulmer as AD than Gilbert or Bohn at Cincy.

If I'm hiring a new AD, the first credentials required are proven experience as an AD. It is a difficult, complex job. It's dealing with hundreds of athletes, coaches, training staff, support staff, facilities staff, and boosters. It requires an experienced manager. In my humble opinion, Fulmer is just not qualified. Is he qualified to be the ambassador for the school and UT sports? Absolutely yes. AD no. Fulmer's a great VFL, but naming him would be a huge mistake. I sure hope Ms Davenport gets the right advice and counsel.
