So... cilantro...
Anyone else here who simply cannot abide the presence and taste of cilantro?
I pretty much can't eat Indian food because of cilantro. Thai and Vietnamese are shaky at best. Mexican requires intense reading of the menu.
Interestingly (to me), I'm ok with coriander, the seed state of cilantro. It's those damn leaves. I can't come up with a description, other than they taste like bad breath. Really, really bad breath. There is nothing "bright and citrus-y" about them, as recipes sparkle at me. It's more of a flashback to the smell of high school gym lockers.
Here in western North Cackalacky, we are occasionally cursed with stink bugs, aka shield bugs. They are truly the stupidest bugs known to humankind, buzzing around at a remarkably low rate of speed, but if you accidentally squish one, the smell is like a concentrated blast of cilantro.
I hate being the sullen member of the group at the restaurant, saying "sorry, can't eat that."
It does appear to be genetic.
Anyone else?
