Nice stats there. Gives some perspective on things.

One thing that I would point out is that the "Dobbs takeover" occurred at the same time as UT's usual "easy 2nd half schedule". Therefore, the stats have the benefit of three 2nd halves of the season and only two 1st halves. That helps matters in the stat department a little.

Very good point.

My main point is that it has been awhile since UT has ranked 2nd in overall win pct in the conference during a 2 1/3 season span.

I get what your saying, but has anyone ever just looked at a 2 1/3 season span before?

Butch does this stuff all the time. After the MCB he said something like "UT is 14-4 over its last 18 games." Last year it was something similar.

If you're only going to include the games since Dobbs took over, how do the numbers suggest that "things are only going to get better" now that Dobbs is gone?

Another possible factor directly related to Dobbs is we put a dual threat QB behind a sub par O line. It's a given our O line was horrible at that time and still needs some work now.

I don't know if things will only get better without Dobbs I agree he will be hard to replace. I would instead speculate that if O line development continues to get better we won't miss Dobbs legs as much maybe. And admittedly it's just speculation.

The man could poop on a baby's face and you guy's would find a way to justify it lol

And he could give another baby CPR and save it's life but another group here would point to 10 others that died that he didn't save. Goes both ways around here dude.

And usually the truth lies somewhere between the two extreme points of view

UT keeps having one of the toughest schedules around tho

Most of you act like it's 2011 all over again. We've came along way, and still have a ways to go. Please try to find some type of enjoyment from the team. Yes, we had some bumps in the road, and lost some we should have won. Everyone knows this, but there is no way you guys are actually like this everyday in life. Every positive point that is made, is then pissed on by those who have an agenda with Butch. This hurts the team, university, and makes the overall fan base look like a bunch of toothless back hollow hicks. Not to mention the parents of recruits and other coaches who use YOUR rants against us to paint a picture of instability here (When there's not). But hey, it's a free country right? Free speech, and all that jazz. Tell me what it is that you think that you're entitled too. Wins? Better coaching? Better players? We have a lot more of all those things than we did just a few years ago. There wasn't this much complaining when Dooley was here.

This dates back to when Dobbs officially took over as QB for Tennessee. Interesting that Tenn, Fla, & UGA are 2/3/4 respectively.

Things are only going to get better.

9. Butch Jones, Tennessee

Record: 79-47 (29-20 at Tennessee)

This is probably lower than Jones would like to be, but it’s hard to gauge just how good a coach he really is. He put together an extremely talented roster, including program-changing quarterback Josh Dobbs. Unfortunately, this was supposed to be the year, and his team blew it. They still will become the first Tennessee team to make three straight bowl games since 2004, but Jones blew a rare opportunity to cement himself as a top-five SEC coach this season.

"since Dobbs took over" was more of an auxiliary statement (although we'll miss him). Things were picking up, as a whole, it seemed.

UT was on a five game losing streak to FBS teams. What was "picking up" before Dobbs stepped in?

I understand that what you were actually doing was trying to lump as many wins on the front end without adding more losses, and mentioning Dobbs was simply a convenient way of not having to say so. But if you are going to make Dobbs the lone variable in your date selection, you can't then argue that things will inevitably get better without him.

Maybe the argument is when butch has a qb that runs his offense. Worley was a great kid just didn't fit the duel threat model.

Cool stat, not sure why everyone is giving the op a hard time. The fact we can even manipulate stats to come In 2nd is a miracle. There was no way to get out of the basement prior to butches 2nd year.
