Where you getting this? Never heard this account and I've lived next to Denton for 20 years.

Edit: I know about the announcement by Villarreal, but that seems to have been misconstrued as an edict. It's common knowledge around here that if Seth Littrell had wanted to keep Canales, he had the option. Littrell wanted his own people and a clean break and this was the AD paving the way without blowback from returning players.

I have heard it and it is also on his wiki page. If it is incorrect than I certainly apologize and I will defer to you since you live nearby. It is out there though that it happened that way.

I think 7-5 next year is very realistic.

GT: can our line hold up? We are so thin at DT and they all will be coming off serious injuries.

GA: They'll make a lot of progress over the off season. Eason should be much improved with a season under his belt. Chubb and Michelle returning. I think they'll take us in Neyland

FL. Don't see us beating them in the swamp. They lose a lot but we are as well.

AL: No explanation needed. There is literally light years separating the two programs. The difference is similar to a normal BCS team and a normal FCS team.

LSU: Big, talented team. We tend to struggle against big, talented teams. Haven't beaten a west team in Jones's tenure. Don't see that changing next year.

Yep, but apparently I'm crazy for thinking that at this point we should have legitimate depth to step up into these vacant spots. I'm not really worried about any of the offensive position groups, but I feel the exact opposite about all levels of the defense.

No - you are just realistic. They were historically bad those last games and will not have a month to heal and plan like they did for the bowl game. When you depend on guys that have been under the knife and shut down the previous season, you have serious depth concerns. Even two of the most likely starters at DE played out of position most of the time. Hopefully, with the new S&C and some better luck on injuries they can step up. Would love for them to pull out at least 9 wins.

GT is maybe the worst way to start the season with our razor thin DT rotation.

I'm not convinced we beat South Carolina or Mizzou. I think we will drop one of those next year. Hope I am wrong. Mizzou plays better at home and our history is not great against them. They believe they can beat us. CBJ has never beat Muschamp. I think it is 0 - 6 now? Florida is in the swamp with a new quarterback and likely a loss as well. We could upset Georgia since it is a home game. Vandy is do or die if we have 4 losses going into that game. I think CBJ would be gone if he lost in that scenario. I think we beat Georgia Tech but we do not have a definite win there.

Florida loses something like 8 starters on defense and still hasn't found a consistent offense. There's no reason that should be a likely loss.

Not being a smart azz but how long should we give Butch before he wins the east in your opinion? 6, 7, 8 years? Or do you think we should be content with 7-5, 8-4, 9-3 type seasons? Serious question.

I think you have to look at what we can hope to replace him with also. 7-5 season probably does him in but i just dont know who we would bring in to do better. This year is what would do him in in the end. Next year would be seen as a rebuilding year and he would get a pass from most if we had won the east. I just think he is a good coach who has been dealt a crap hand and an impatient somewhat delusional fan base.

You missed my point. I never said Georgia was a powerhouse. But I think Alabama, Ohio St, Georgia, Florida, and a few other schools out there have admins that really care about football more than our admin does. Why else would Georgia let a coach with zero recruiting problems, and an excellent status in the coaching community go? He averaged close to ten wins a season. How many coaches are doing that? There fans and admin wanted more. They deserved more SEC east crowns then they got with the talent they had. Yes Georgia is no powerhouse but hey deserve to be on this list. There is no way in the world our admin fires a coach or ask him to move on if he had the record of CMR.

I agree with much of what you have written. But, IIRC, GA had, on a national level, the second highest average class recruiting ranking (according to Rivals) from '02 - '11. Only USC was better. However, despite that long run at the top in recruiting, they never could turn that success into a real shot at the NC.

I agree but we are in the same boat. I think the rosters are comparable. I give FL the edge for it being in the swamp.

I don't think we should, but I think the university is fine with it. Athletics is being deemphasized IMO. It will take a half empty Neyland again to change it. As long as there are winning seasons and bowls it will stay as is because much of the fan base will still support it.

I could be wrong but I don't think his buyout matters as much as we think. I remember LWS saying just that not too long ago.

New chancellor, new AD coming in, I think Butch has to win the East this fall to be around any longer, it's year 5. 10 reg season wins but somehow miss ATL and he's back but less than 9 wins and he's gone no doubt.

8-4 or 7-5 in year 5 would bring too much heat from fans and press and the program/roster is in good enough shape now to attract elite coaches.

Program roster may be in good enough shape but if we fire him at 8 and 4, no elite coach is going to come in, year 5 or not. This is just my opinion..

I've never found the "who will we get that's better" argument to be persuasive in the least. There will be someone paid very handsomely to make that decision- and there are several out there that are capable.

It shouldn't be but I think it is. From what I understand they have some pretty good players stepping in at some of those positions and we never seem to fare well there. The curse may be broken with the win this year. Like you depth concerns me. We do not have to have as many injuries next year for it to affect us similar to this year. We just do not have the depth we should have at many positions. This team could go anywhere from 5 -7 to 10 - 2. But I am thinking it will be in the 6-6 or 7-5 range.

I don't think 7-5 gets him fired and I don't think it should. I think he he's done a lot for this program but I also think he is a bit delusional. Used to I thought the stuff he said was coach speak and he didn't believe it. I don't think that way now, I think he believes it. I could understand the occasional slip of the tongue but when it keeps occuring, you have to believe he believes some of that stuff he says himself. If what LWSVol says is true that he thought he'd have a great year this year and that would launch him into an NFL head coaching position, that tells me the guy is seriously off his rocker.

And that is why CMR is no longer there. The admin there and the fans expected more, even deserved more based on the recruiting. He probably deserved to be fired. I just do not think Tennessee's admin would have pulled the trigger and fired him.

Wow. Somehow I missed this. I knew he was looking to leave here and hoping to do better this year so he could. I thought it was for another college job. I in no way see him coaching in the pros as a head coach.

100% agree. They would not have.

What's crazy to me is that everyone puts so much faith in recruiting and that Georgia and Eason will be awesome, but when it comes to Gurantano our five star everyone thinks we will go seven and five. I think we will do better than that or we will be looking for a coach. I think o line will be good. Running back should be good. Receivers should be decent with Jennings callaway Byrd smith and Johnson. Defense needs to get healthy and needs to learn the scheme more. But I think Shoop will show us that the second year in the scheme will prove much better. Have kicker and punter back.
