Not sure you have to know someone directly in order to gauge their nature. He is a public figure, and there is enough video, audio, plus "insider" nuggets out there that you can put the pieces together. If he was ready to leave this year, (despite his success in rebuilding a program) but Purdue wasn't able to afford the buyout, why wouldn't he leave next year (after another successful season). SEC isn't for everyone, as Urbs proved almost a decade ago. Butch wants out. It's human nature, it's critical thinking, and there are other options in the wings whom people affiliated with the program would rather see fill the HC position.
As for the lame duck definition I'd encourage you to buy a new dictionary. But I'll agree that we shouldn't use the term lame duck as it is typically in reference to a political office rather than a head coach position. Buy for the sake of argument, lame duck is convenient and demonstrates the point.
Many assumptions and opinion in your post which is fine, that is what a message board is for. I would suggest you look up the origin of lame duck as it suggests one is crippled or hindered in some way from making decisions or controlling their own outcome. My opinion is that is not the case with CBJ.
