The problem with scott is he will leave in a couple years for a HC gig.

I wouldn't let that stop me. I don't like borrowing trouble from the future.

I think a Scott Wienke combo is a great upgrade.

Agreed. Think that's our best option at this point if we do go in house.

Butch needs to realize he needs elite recruiters on this staff Instead of having a staff of his buddies. Weinke should be hired on the spot. But of course he will choose Canales and recruits will have to google who he is.

Expectations are not being reduced by anyone. It's just that some of us understand and live by the following lines and others do not.

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

Sure they are. I want, I want, I want. Well, if not him or him, maybe -----. Go back and look at the posts. I get being at peace in all things. Since you want to go the route you did, how about the scripture of being salt and light?

It leads to mattress burning events, a HOF coach getting canned, Dooleyisms, etc. when it putters along with muffled expectations.

Expectations were pretty high when Kiffin bailed. Burning mattresses doesn't result from an "oh well" crowd.

If you look at what is coming back. Take a good look at the schedule. Realize who is leaving. With a new AD, really it is not too hard to imagine a 6 and 6 season with Jones gone mid-season. I think Georgia and Bama will be losses, and Muschamp has never lost to Jones. Who wants to guarantee a win against Florida? With a new QB , I don't. We may win nine, but 6-6 is certainly possible too. A few key injuries at a couple of spots it even seems likely.

The ones that had inflated expectations likely don't believe they are rationalizing now.

As you know, most on here are quite content with good, not great. I personally think it is representative of the entire fan base. I know it is of university officials. That says 1998 was an aberration not to be repeated anytime soon.

A month ago we were talking about revamping staff by way of a couple position coaches on each side of the ball and a new strength coach. That still looks likes it's going to happen. If you were expecting Peyton Manning at QB coach, Terry Fair at DB and 3 other coaches you wouldn't have to google search then you are not thinking realistically. And I don't think that's what fans were thinking.

Debord leaving wasn't expected so I'm not sure how fans are now rationalizing and settling when there wasn't much speculation regarding OC up until about 3 days ago.

I guess I have expectations that we won't lose to Vanderbilt or Kentucky ever.. That we will beat Mizzou and South Carolina most years. That we will win our cupcake games going away and won't have the starters in late. That we won't have long losing streaks to any of our main rivals including Bama. That we will compete for the East every year and be nationally relevant in the world of college football. We should be in or near the top 25 at all times.

I would describe everything above that as aspirations rather than expectations. I hope to have some years where it all comes together and we win the SEC and make the playoffs. I hope we win it all someday. But those aren't realistic "expectations" to have year to year for anybody right now except Bama. And their bubble is gonna pop eventually. We just have to be ready to take advantage when it does.

This past season did not meet my expectations. If it was up to me I would have fired Butch Jones and we would be looking for a new head coach right now. But it is not, and I accept that that's not my role. But I'm also not going to rule out the possibility that Butch could turn it around here with the right hires and some good breaks. I only get 12 games a year guaranteed. I'm going to always look forward to each one and look for The ways I think we could win. Butch has us at least to the point where we could win any game on the schedule.

He gets one more year to prove it. I hope he does.

Plenty of Debord stepping down speculation occurred.

I could have done better, but I meant for it to reference the poor decision making processes on the front end that led to guys like Kiffin and Dooley being hired, which led to reactions that made us look like idiots and causes the fan base to not expect excellence. Another example is allowing Fulmer to hire Clawson when he had a roster that would not work.

You would fire him for completing most of your list while having a team that had countless injuries and a couple cancers?

I mean my faith in Butch took a hit this season, but damn. If you run a business how often are you turning over your employees?

There was a SI article that referred to him as 70...obviously wrong with the timeline of his career.

I'm getting up there and 61 gives me a lot more confidence than 70. I was like "OK, maybe this will work."
