Can Dobbs make it as a wideout in NFL?

Some need to read the thread title again. It's a simple question and should require a fairly simple answer based on ones OPINION, not a damn argument....

Good grief.

People get (rightfully) wound up about the four million dollar man who can't get big wins he should and has big losses he shouldn't. But the players?

Dobbs has all the measurables and the intangible that he will be the smartest person both sidelines every Sunday. He looked the business in the pocket most of the year (he didnt have a pocket on way too many plays) and I thought he made a lot of NFL throws in the bowl game.

If he impresses at practice for Senior Bowl he is Round 4 latest and a possible franchise steal.

I guess vtech, Florida, Georgia weren't big. Also manhandling Missouri who manhandled us for the first 3 years they were in the sec. oh I forget butch was on the field during sc and vandy. Plenty of plays could have been made but weren't and we lost. Get over it.

Agree on dobbs. I'm really curious to see how the NFL works out. He's deceptively fast and elusive and I think he has a great arm.

Am I the only one who hopes he doesn't go to the NFL? I hope he follows his dream of becoming an Aerospace engineer. The NFL is very rough on running quarterbacks so he would have to completely change his skill set to be a pocket passer. I would love to one day see a VFL going into outer space or building the rocket ship to Mars. (If he isn't commanding it). How awesome would it be to see him plant the Power T on the Red planet.

2 of the highest IQ QB'S in the NFL will be retired in the next 2-3 years, Brady and Rodgers, Dobbs would be a great 6th round pick for either one of those teams. He is smart enough to learn those offenses well!

Dobbs has an outstanding arm, he will get drafted and have every opportunity to make a roster. Predicting QB's to the NFL is a crap shoot. I was sure Heath Shuler and Tim Couch would be good NFL QB's. I was also sure that Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott would never even be starters in the NFL.

NO ARM that was his problem here he could not take the top of the defense QB coach or not he hasn't the arm to play in the NFL look up TIM TEBOW.:thud:He was one play away in the dawgs game in 15 from going to the bench and he would have never started a game for us again got lucky on fourth down if you remember the back up was up and throwing he just doesn't have the tools to translate to the NFL wish he did but he doesnt some team will give him a shot and cut him with the first or second cut.

Can't really agree with your premise. BUT ... you do bring up a good point about that UGA situation. He really was stinking that game up. Then he turned on the jets, won the comeback, and the rest is history.

Had Pearson not saved the day falling on his back to catch that short 4th down pass (then Smith too), I wonder what Josh Dobbs, Quinten Dormady, and Butch Jones situation and legacy would be at this point in time.

Dobbs arm is every bit as strong as Peyton's was in college. IMO, Bray and Shuler have the best arms to come through UT in the last 2.5 decades. Tee's was pretty good and so was Crompton's. Clausen was so good at so many things but arm strength was not his calling card. All just my opinion.

Arm strength isnt everything. If you cant consistently make a 5 yard throw to the sideline without it going 10 feet over the WRs head you probably wont make it in the NFL.

I wasn't arguing whether or not he could be a good pro, I was commenting on arm strength alone.

How good are his hands and how good are his routes? Those will be the biggest factors. Everything else we know about him suggests he can play WR

Hopefully whoever takes him will have a plan on how to use him. Hope it's not another Tebow fiasco.

Randall Cobb was similar,Though he played receiver in college, but not dedicated to WR.

Braxton Miller hasn't wow'd in the league at WR, but he managed to make the transition.

Terrell Pryor has transitioned really well.

Matt Jones did it and was solid for several years at WR.

If those guys can do it, why can't Dobbs?

I think he can. He Is fast, has good hands, good work habits and lots of brainpower. Would not surprise me to see him play 5-10 years in the right situation. What a credit he has been to UT . Kids like him have to have a positive effect on recruiting . Long live Josh Dobbs!

You guys really don't want anymore black QBs in the NFL?

Dobbs is a QB. Get over it. He'll be drafted as a QB. And he'll have success as a QB at the next level.

Stop with this garbage of him being a WR.

So you don't mind it if he risks his body for UT were he's no getting paid? But you do mind it when he risks his body while being paid in the NFL?

This hypocrisy is hilarious.

Either advocate for kids to not play football all together or shut up about them skipping the riches of professional football because only now do you recognize the physical risks.

I don't think Rodgers will be retiring that soon. He is only 33.

Ridiculous. He won't play in the NFL. At any position.

I am and have been with you on this. Don't see him in NFL long at all in any position.

I have seen Dobbs rated as highly as the 3rd top QB in this class recently and some have him around 9th or 14th. Either way this projects to a draft status of anywhere from the 3rd-6th rounds. He will be drafted and instantly be richer and more successful than either of you.....professionally...........

Saying Matt Jones was solid for several years at WR is a huuuuuge stretch

He will be a NFL QB before he's a receiver. Much better qb prospect than wr. Just cuz yall got a snow day don't mean you can start hitting the pipe before lunch.

Well he can and did. he was the best qb in the SEC and the best qb we have had since Peyton.

Dobbs could be a fine wideout. He was never a QB, but a great runner.

He is great at qb. He was the SEC OPY and the best qb in the nest conference.

I am and have been with you on this. Don't see him in NFL long at all in any position.
Well scouts all disagree with you. So does the Senior Bowl invite. Only players getting drafted are invited.

People wonder why I used to say some people here are just biased against Dobbs. We still have people saying he was never a qb. They never said the same things about qbs even worse though.
