Why don't you if you Morans start a petition to hire Blackburn? I would do it myself but I'm to much of a moron to figure it out.

Around 50k signatures on there and the new lady will realize VolNation runs the university not her.

I covered this yesterday. VN only knows how to fahr people with petitions. We got no experience using petitions to hahr folks.

Was Blackburn in the AD when we did things like hire Kiffin without a real buyout...hire Dooley, hire Jones etc....?

While I'm asking questions

Are the AD and Chancellor spots currently vacant? I know Davenport has been hired, but I thought I saw she does not start until Feb.

What about Hart, is he gone? Who is doing day to day ops if so?

Hart is working and is visible at games and functions.

I think that I would grudgingly accept Larry Scott, as he does seem to have a keen offensive mind. We would lose some of his impact with recruiting, though, would we not? Does the OC typically recruit positions other than QB? I agree that my lid would flip if we promote ZA.

Why do you think he has a keen offensive mind? Has he ever called plays at a high level?

Just get the guy who can call the best game and get the most out of the system that it is in place. To be honest an internal hire makes the most sense.

CBJ cannot afford to implement a new system especially with unproven QBs and so much riding on team 121.

I wouldn't mind Scott and a proven QB coach who can recruit.

Scott - OC
Canales - QB coach
Barlow - DB coach

That may be it on staff changes at this point.

Why would you put the experienced OC as the QB coach and the guy who's never been an OC as the OC? I feel like the world has turned upside down with everyone on board with Scott as OC.

He's never called plays in his life, not even as a QB calling plays in the huddle. Not even as the HS CO-OC, someone else called the plays during the game. How is an SEC program even considering someone like that?

Scott isn't my first choice but the most likely choice it seems like from everything that's been said in here. I can't speak for everyone else but I would be okay with Scott given how he was involved in bringing different looks on offense, like 2 TE sets for instance, late in the year. it seemed to be effective and that was Scott's suggestion. He doesn't have playcalling experience is the only thing I'm worried about but if he can at least analyze our offense and add in new subtle plays or formations it might be just what Butch is looking for.

My concern is that an internal hire of a guy who has never been OC is going to create a situation where a HC who seems to have difficulty with micromanaging is not going to be kept in check.

Plus, I thought I read that Canales isn't even an OC or QB coach at Utah State, he is RB coach. Is that correct?

Assistant head coach, RB coach, and TE coach.

Looks like he can coach just about any position on offense, but he has QB coach experience going back to 1987.

If Strip retires, he may get the assistant HC title here too.

I'll agree adding 2 TE sets is a positive, but one good suggestion to get your position group more involved is a miniscule drop in the bucket of what an OC does. It's like making someone a VP because they suggested a more efficient filing method for the office.

Canales was OC/QB at North Texas for 5 years or something like that. And at South Florida. And at Arizona.

I think he was a bit more involved than that in the game plan as the season went on. My guess is that Scott was groomed this year to be the OC next year and that is why he came here and hasn't looked elsewhere.

What would everyone think of Mike Canales as the OC/QB coach? He has experience at multiple stops as an OC and QB coach. He also has WR, TE, and RB coaching experience. He could fill the OC/QB role. Then if Mo isn't extended they would just need to look for an OL coach.

Should probably add Hoke as DL coach. VQ is strongly hinting that this will happen. I think Strip retires after NSD.
