As it was happening and I was listening to it on TV I just thought it was funny that the fans were booing. And I think honestly for most of the fans it was more of a joke than anything else.
Really, it's not like there was anything to boo-boo up 35 to nothing.
I think, rather, that was more insight into Butch's overall personality and insecurity than anything else.
I'm not so sure it was a joke lol
I don't doubt he's insecure here. I mean after all, Vol Twitter and some of the call in shows are brutal lol
It's not the cameras fault
I wasn't there so I don't know for sure, but as it was going to half time and you could hear the boo's they were showing shots of the crowd and there were plenty of people kind a laughing with smiles on our faces.
I didn't see a voracious crowd ready to throw him to the wolves.
But that's just me like I said I wasn't there.
I don't think he's perfect by a long shot myself. There's things he needs to improve on no doubt. Late game decisions/clock management being a couple of them. I was as mad as anybody after the Vandy game. I hopped on the fire Butch wagon for all of a day, but in the grand scheme of things a coaching change is not something we need right now. I'm more than willing to sit and see if he makes the right adjustments to the staff. If he makes the right adjustments and we still aren't up to snuff then the problem lies at the top.
We all want the same thing. We all want to be successful. 9-4 isn't the standard here, I realize that but I do feel from where we have been since 2008 these last two seasons were a step in the right direction.
Eh, saying "f em all" is crossing a pretty good size line.
I didn't see the crowd shots myself at half so you could very well be right. It may have been a joke at the time and when people seen the actual footage of it they got mad and it turned into a bigger deal than it should have been.
I don't think Butch is going to be the guy to get us where we need to be. I also don't think firing him right now is right either.
For a lot of various reasons that have nothing to do with how great of a coach he is, he's going to be here through 2017 So will just see what happens.
I don't know. If I'm up 35 zip, call for a FG and get boos rained down, then I look at my players who've been busting their tails in a beatdown just to hear a chorus of boos because 3 more points just isn't good enough, maybe telling my players "F*** all them, get up, get up!" is not crossing a reasonable line.
It doesn't matter either way. You're the head coach of the program like Tennessee, you're not going to please everybody and you just have to deal with it.
The old Saying "don't let them see you sweat" rings true here, and every other big time program in the country.
I know Butch has been coaching for a while but I think he's still learning himself how to handle expectations here and this season showed that in a lot of aspects. This incident being one of them.
He wants to be here, but every time he loses he starts to doubt his coaching ability in the SEC.
Every time he wins, he tells himself my "system" is the best!
I think he had a huge learning curve and he's just now adjusting.
He knows how lucky he really is to win those games the way we did.
It says more about a coach that talks about not being emotional versus being passionate, that let his emotions get the better of him, than it does the fans.
See this is where I start to have a problem. I don't necessarily have an issue with him having to learn how the SEC works, adjusting to the fan base, and the overall scope of things in the SEC.
I do have an issue with this notion that after four years here that we're still in some kind of continuing education class on coaching in the SEC and at Tennessee.
If he hasn't figured all that out by now then really what are we getting?
You start to really wonder if he's just better suited to be a coach in the M AC
I get that, but I remember when I saw it happen, I felt like he was trying to get the team to ignore the distraction of ludicrous negativity and stay in the game, not just reacting badly out of insecurity or whatever. I always thought the bigger stupidity was the internet fanbase taking it as a personal affront and firing up the outrage machine. Seemed like much ado about nothing.
I think we find out what we need to know this year regardless of how it plays out. If we were to go say 10-2 and win the East, I think that means Butch definitely made the right hires on staff and that they really coached them up.
If it's another 8-4 season and mid tier bowl game, we know he isn't the guy to get us there.
And to me it still speaks more to the contradiction that is Butch Jones. Say one thing and do anotherI get that, but I remember when I saw it happen, I felt like he was trying to get the team to ignore the distraction of ludicrous negativity and stay in the game, not just reacting badly out of insecurity or whatever. I always thought the bigger stupidity was the internet fanbase taking it as a personal affront and firing up the outrage machine. Seemed like much ado about nothing.
I watched the game and if I remember correctly I hung out here afterwards. Hell I don't know how I missed it.
Well like I said as I was watching on TV it felt more like a joke, like the fans were supposed to boo because of the situation.
Honestly I didn't see anything to it and just kind of chuckled as it was happening. And judging by the looks on the faces I saw in the crowd, it appeared that my impression was confirmed
And let's say you're right, if my motivation tactic is to get the players to be mad at the fans, what does that really say about the one doing the motivating?
That's fair. But I'm impatient by nature, and I've already skipped to the end.😎
