We just had a pool guy call one of the most prolific offenses UT has ever had.
We just had a grand slam DC hire **** the bed.
IMO getting angry at things that haven't even happened yet is silly. We as fans know little and influence less. Events take shape in ways we don't expect. So I'd suggest letting things play out and then forming conclusions; some of the angst here is premature.
No sense in borrowing trouble.
Facts are these:
Butch brought in staff he was comfortable with from Cincinatti. He also brought in excellent recruiters from an Auburn program that had a recent national championship. This was needed to establish the culture he desired and to bring in an immediate influx of talent to the program. Mission accomplished. Now, with these things established, and player development being a weak point, he can look to improve on that end.
1. Bajakian: Had his ups and downs, but not terrible.
1b. Debord: Had his ups and downs, but maybe a bit better than Bajakian.
2. Mahoney: Probably underperformed, and will be replaced.
3. Jancek: Solid defense, multiple collapses.
3b. Shoop: Bruin disagrees, but most likely an upgrade, given time, his own staff hires, and D1 players. Possible Home run
4. Elder: Rising star. Rose on...
4b. Scott: Well respected. Recruiting boss. Upgrade.
5. Azzanni: Important recruiter. Has improved his coaching.
6. Strip: Good hire
7. Martinez: Great recruiter, players lacked fundamentals.
8. Thigpen: Great recruiters, players lacked fundamentals.
9. Gillespie: Homerun.
So what I am saying is this. Butch isn't as bad at staff hires as people are fretting over. The facts are, Debord put up points, and everyone has moments during a season that they are stuck. OSU vs Clemson, for example.
Mahoney, Thigpen, and Martinez, obviously the weak links are going to be replaced (most likely). Let the man do work.
