Mostly just handwringing. But reading the tea leaves it appears that:
- we have a head coach that would rather go down with the ship than bring in an outside offensive mind to change his system;
- a Chancellor and administration that is perfectly willing to let a great candidate walk and delay an AD hire for months because they don't want a "Tennessee guy"; and
- UT is no longer interested in being a top athletic program.

Nothing in stone, but I'm not optimistic.

None of that is correct.
Our offense is not broken. Look at the points scored and yardage. Do we need more consistent and better play calling, yes; but to suggest we need to change the entire scheme is stupid. Its is what we have recruited to for four years.
Blackburn will be the AD, even if its next month. He is not going anywhere except up the road about 120 miles. Timing is not as important as once thought as Butch has the ability to hire who he wants on the terms necessary.
Why not wait and see how the next few weeks play out until declaring our Ath. Dept left for dead......
The chicken little mentality of many on this site puzzles me.

Some folks just don't get how Alabama football has positioned the University of Alabama in the global market place. I was at the TN v. Alabama game in Birmingham when the half time show included the announcement that Mercedes would open a plant in state.

Just curious...is the BMW plant in SC due to Clemson or USCe?

I said that it was mostly just handwringing. I'm willing to wait and see. I just said I wasn't optimistic.

Thanks for the recap...

On your first point... I would argue that if the OC ends up being Larry Scott, that that actually is an outside hire. He just made the hire a year early and groomed him for this position.

2nd... Blackburn seems perfect on paper and maybe he is. But we don't all really know that for a fact. It's just become the consensus choice because it makes so much sense. It still could be him. We won't know for sure until a hire is made. And even then we won't know if the hire was a success or not until years down the road.

There are way too many people that care about Volunteer football for your last point to be true. Could they bumble the whole thing and get it all wrong? Absolutely. Could there be a few individuals that are focused on some other things they feel are important to address as well? I'm sure there are. But I don't believe for a second that the University of Tennessee as a whole is all of a sudden disinterested in competing at the highest level in one of the biggest moneymaking athletic events in the country. At worst, they want to have their cake and eat it too.

That's just my opinion.

Really the only way to win is if you don't let stuff like this bring you down. We're just fans. We didn't even lose to Alabama today and everybody is all let down.

It could just mean that Larry Scott is a fast rising coach in this industry and Butch thinks he's the best option. That's not that crazy. He really might be. Hiring him last year was a great move at the time and I was surprised he took the position just to coach TE's. It's possible this has been the plan all along with him.

Makes sense. Sounds like they knew all along Debord was leaving, the only surprise was he too the Indiana job. So this was probably in Butch's mind all along..

It wouldn't be the first time Butch had a long term plan in place that most of us couldn't see at the time.

I think the University works more like the old French estate system than a republic. The big boosters are the 1st estate, the faculty/administration are the 2nd, and us plebian fans and alum are the 3rd.

I don't think the 1st or 2nd estate cares much about our love for UT athletics until we start burning mattresses.

And I'm not really as down as my posts imply. Just thinking out loud if I should still be throwing good money at bad.

Maybe you're right about all that. It's definitely a shame if so. Huge missed opportunities everywhere.

First off, why hire a QB coach before an oc, let the new oc bring in o e of his own guys for a change. Second, the leadership.at ut still sucks. What the hell.is going on up there, why the hell.do they make things so damn hard. An ad is a pretty damn I.portant position to leave vacant for 5 months....And why the hell.do they need to hire a search firm.to make calls, another way to waste money. Tennessee leadership is an embarrassment

Good luck to all you guys I need to take a break from Tennessee sports for a while due to the b******* that seems to continue to go on up there. Renewing season tickets is gonna depend on if they get their **** together, I hate not to, but damn, this is frustrating. I hope we have a good Signing Day I'll see you guys back in August for fall practice....

Our offense is fine, just need someone who isn't so predictable calling the plays and a little more aggressive mentality, especially with leads.

I don't necessarily disagree with lack of leadership and conditioning being a problem, but I do think we were out-schemed in both games. South Carolina's defense was very well prepared for our offense and Dobbs having an off-game was directly correlated with that. Muschamp has always been able to take away what we do best and make Dobbs beat them with his arm.

He didn't out-scheme anybody. He rolled the dice and got lucky Dobbs had a Mr.Hyde day. That is all. If Dobbs was on, and Hurd wasn't such a distraction, we would have beat the dog piss out of them. Injuries Notwithstanding.

Give me Cumbie at OC, Weinke (dream), Hardegree or Dorsey at QB Coach, move Scott to TE/OL Coach and give him a raise, Strip to administrative role and Hoke at DL coach, and Barlow DB coach. Add that with Rocky G at S+C coach and we're good to go.
