And who is the prominent booster who declined to be on the search committee?! Hopefully not Peyton - good lord they need all the help they can get from someone like him. What a mess. It's depressing being a Vols fan. Nothing is easy, ever!!

Just a vol with a post about OC position

just_a_vol said... (original post)

Hey ya'll. I can't tell you who the OC is going to be but it won't be Helfrich. I've been told that he is the one who cooled on that deal after showing alot if interest. I believe Z and Scott are both candidates at least to the point of Butch giving them a look. I believe that Larry Scott is the most likely of those two and if that happens I've been told by non UT people that Dorsey is a real possibility at QB coach. That would be a huge home run in and of itself. He's a coaching star on the rise. I also know that Sonny Cumbie had interest last time and does this time as well. He is ready to be a full time OC. Names are kind of scarce right now. I'm trying to work on that today. Look for Barlow over Fair. Was at the hospital with my mom when all of this broke. Hope that all is well with all of you.

Given the predisposition of failure that some here possess, I'm surprised you leave the house regularly. Wait...maybe you don't?!?

No, because her vision is at odds with what most Tennessee people want-- for the university, the state and the AD position. She wants UT to refocus its priorities, and she has always wanted a national search for AD. She doesn't want a Tennessee person in the job.

Then she should be fired. We need an AD now. We don't have time for this national mamby pamby bullcrap!.

Is it too late to not hire her. Athletics before Academics. I have a feeling she will do the opposite

So help me...internal promotion is bad for OC, but is good for AD?

Uggghh... Please let all this rumor mongering be nothing more than that. Please let the people in charge make the right and completely obvious decisions. Please. Please. Please. Please don't let them channel their inner Hamilton.

My guessing for this is that she knows the AD is the vice chancellor and A Tennessee person will get more backing than her. Which makes her think she will have less power than her vice chancellor and be out of the job.

Do we really? Sounds like the coaching staff changes are well underway without a functional AD. Do we really think Blackburn could hire a DB coach better than Shoop?

LAVol, is anyone challenging this witch who wants to come in and change everything great about Tennessee? Or are they just letting her have control? I wish the AD would move back under the leadership of the president. I guess it's too late for that now. Be careful what you wish for they say- Cheek looks pretty good compared to Davenport right now, if all of this is true.

Had nothing to do with hiring and everything to do with guidance

Surely she is not that stupid. VC in charge of Athletics, aka the Athletic Director, is in charge of athletics. She is their boss. The issue is that people want TN to be a top academic school and that is fine but you can still be great at athletics. A successful football team is good for the academic portion of the school! Why can't the academic folks understand that!

Or possibly she is actually competent and wants to hire the best person for the job. Who might not be from Tennessee.

I've run a business for 25 years. Having empowered competent people working for me isn't a threat, it's a blessing.

I thought Bajakian went to the pros to coach QBs? Is it even remotely possible CBJ is talking to him about coming back to coach QBs here? Maybe he is not happy in the pros? just a thought.

I think we do. An AD might tell Butch that, "We are gonna go out and get a top notch current OC that fits your offense. Give me a list of candidates and lets start making calls. We can't take chances on an unproven name and we need you and the football program to be successful." Everybody needs guidance and a sounding board. Right now we have no chancellor because she is taking over officially until February. We have no AD because Hart is a lame duck and couldn't care less. That leaves a young coach with a major set of decisions that could affect his career. We need an AD to help steer these searches in the best direction for Butch and that entire football program.
