Hubbs this Morning

Agreed. The other issue I have with the job he did was is we got worse all over the field, at virtually every position in terms of fundamentals and sound scheme. We tackled poorly, we communicated poorly, were constantly out of position, and he continued to force our corners into playing man coverage all year long when they showed very early they simply couldn't do it.

If you could narrow down our defensive woes to just the injuries, I would be so pessimistic about Shoop, but you just can't honestly do that. The injuries were a factor, a hindrance, but they were far from the primary reason why he oversaw an historically bad defense this year imo, and they surely weren't the reason for losses to both SCar and Vandy.

The single biggest factor in why the D struggled down the stretch was because we didn't have Tuttle, McKenzie, or O'Brien in the interior defensive line. We had to resort to starting a first-year diva defensive end at defensive tackle for the last few games. Kentucky and Mizzou in particular ripped our interior defensive line to shreds and Jumper, Kirkland, et al where nowhere to be found in the hole.

That fact underscores just how remarkable of a year Derek Barnett had, because opposing teams didn't have to worry about anybody else in the front seven. Vereen is good, but I think he's just a mediocre player if a game-changer like Barnett isn't on the other side.

no, injuries were a primary reason we were bad on defense this year. You lose your starting weakside lb (ALL SEC), starting MLB, THREE DT's, and starting corner. You suffer. McDowell did well in spurts, but was out of position A LOT. The LB had a lot of bad reads, especially in pass coverage. There was not much push up the middle by the DT's that we had in there. I am not sure what role the DT's were suppose to play, but we did not have the bodies to play those roles. Injuries happen....it is what it is. No one was satisfied with the product that was on the field, but they did the best with what they had. Now if there were no injuries, and the defense was bad....I would agree with you.

Do you wake up every morning excited to critique Butch's every single move?

There are 3 things for certain in life...taxes, death, and Dudleys87 in every single thread bashing Butch's every single move no matter what it is.

News flash: Everything is speculation so far, yet you're already bashing Butch for a move he hasn't even made yet...in every thread smh.

He is pre-bashing, the ability to criticize before said outcome is known. It is a large part of the malcontents weaponry. For the record I want to win every game and have been a Volunteer for over 40 years, but I am also a realist.

You guys keep bringing up Shoop and him not allowed to bring his assistants, or being forced to work with the ones on staff already.

Then tell me, why the hell would he have accepted the job if that were the case? Did he really want out of PSU that much?! I don't believe that nonsense for one second.

He had options and was going to get paid well regardless.
I believe he may have needed a season to see what he was working with. Either way, like you, I don't believe the VN slanted version. Makes for great saber rattling but makes zero sense as truth.

Injuries hurt in more than one way.

He blew out his Tindon if i remember correctly.

He may have been healthy from it but comditioning took a huge hit. He should have followed JRM and hung it up but I don't hate the man for wanting to rep the T one more time
It's tendon, and I recall it being an ankle or foot fracture.

Eh, if I'm wrong I'm wrong. It won't change my opinion. Jones is still out after this season and Tennessee is no better than 6-6

Damn, I came into this thread and all I see is whining and bickering over pure speculation about who Butch will hire as our OC. It would be a little bit more wise to wait and see who the hire actually is before we start throwing out negative opinions. Ya'll crack me up.

I was really hoping Butch would get it and go all in on the OC hire.....and few position coaches.....uber lulz.

I would rather he go all in on position coaches, like OL and WR. The offense did fine. If we had better blocking, it would not get so bogged down on the run plays.

Yeah, when he was hired, but not anymore. The University isn't rolling in dough but they aren't broke.

The funds aren't there for some type of break-the-bank hire but they could buy him out and pay another guy a similar type of salary. Of course, once that happened, the same people calling for Butch's head would be raising hell that we didn't hire a "big time coach."

If he wins 6 or 7 games next year but isn't fired, that would absolutely kill recruiting for a couple of years. Everybody would know he was a lame duck coach.

Firing Jones even next year would be much costlier than the Brain Trust on VN realizes. Not only his buyout but his staff plus hiring a new coach and all of his staff.
Plus in spite of some on VN, a bunch of fans would be pissed if he is fired.
Barring a scandal Jones is at UT through 18 at a minimum.

UT seems to have more drama than a d**n high-school cheerleading squad.

Not UT. The internet boards are where all the drama and stuff are created. Maybe 10% of posting is realtime information rather than trolling , rumors, speculation, hearsay, post which is self satisfying for those posters. The worst is, these so-called fans care little about the sports programs at Tennessee except to see them fail as quickly as possible. I would not be surprised that more than one of these posters is really small minder mike using different accounts.

LWS said Butch passed on Helfrich. He also said that Debord would still be the OC next year. So all speculation

How's Penn State doing without Shoop? Or Vandy? I'll wait..

All points he fails to recognize.

Bless your heart. You're not a very smart fella are you.

Again read the question. I asked what was YOU'RE reaction to the hiring od Shoop and Scott.

LOL not a hard concept fella
