Wouldn't the game day coordinator just kind of ignore the game plan coordinator if he wasn't a fan of something?

I would think one would be more of a paper OC, but then what is the point?

Maybe in a CO OC system they trade off series and the HC dictates later in the game who makes the calls based on how the game is going?

All legitimate questions. It is not an ideal OC situation and I would prefer just having one. But other teams like Clemson, TCU and others have shown it can and does work so I would be open to the thought of it.

I've talked myself into Larry Scott for OC. But I won't budge on Azzani. He needs to be on the sidelines for his inspirational speeches and butt taps.

You guys are fantasy junkies. I liked the DeBord hire. I was here. I have never liked CZA. Just something about him. It's not rational, he just irks me. Arguing about past opinion his highly dubious. And CZA's squad performed this year.

I'd like to know how they approach it. I'm sure the info is out there, but I'm too lazy to Google it. One of the great things about Volnation. All the relevant info comes to me.

UT screwing up the AD search which ultimately allows the coaching search to mostly likely go in a direction it shouldn't. Sounds on par for UT athletics to me.

Is it possible to see a Co-OC of Scott and CZA? If we are going to promote within and both of them have very little experience then why not. It's not my first choice by any means as I want a proven OC but the Co-OC route has worked at other places like TCU.

The dots could connect this way. Promote Z and Scott, bring in a QB coach to replace Sheridan, replace Martinez, hire Rock and minimize changes to keep it low-risk. Raise and extend the current staff, avoiding a significant financial outlay on a high ticket OC. Gilbert and DiP sign off on it with no new AD to challenge anything.

Interesting that Scott was mentioned as being the impetus for some shifts that were deployed late in the season. Pretty much lets you know that he has a seat with the brain trust. I like Scott. That was the "second" trial balloon. Could hang with him being promoted. Still need a QB coach.

If there's any truth to that 247 hit piece on Butch from a few weeks ago, this year's underachievement had more to do with lack of conditioning and lack of leadership than problems with the offensive and defensive coordinators. The Vols weren't outschemed by South Carolina and Vandy, just undisciplined and halfhearted. Rock Gullickson is the most important hire of the offseason.

Yeah, I agree. Besides, it would look pretty awkward for our OC to wear sweatbands in the coaches box. :loco:

Right there with you. If we did in fact hire Co-OC's all that information will be all over VolNation. I can wait, lol.

Let's just be the first team to hire an "Offensive Coordinator Committee" with Scott, Z, and Gillespie.

Sorry Mahoney, Volnation has sent you out to the pasture for retirement.

All seems plausible, IMO. Would be a total Butch move.

Getting manhandled by opposing DLs/OLs, slow starts, injuries, penalties, and turnovers plaguing the first 2/3rds of the season all point to a mismanaged fall camp/S&C program, IMO.

TK said that the team had full-contact practices leading up to the bowl game, and low and behold, the team looked physical and tough again.
