What is the basis for the pick?

I cited improved offensive balance under Scott as my basis for choosing him, but I'm open to being convinced.

Azzani has been here longer and has been a play caller before. I just think he has been a little bit ahead of scott in the experience department but I agree it isn't far beyond.

Azzanni vs Scott may come down to which guy Butch views as a more valuable staff member moving forward. I would imagine the guy who gets passed over will be gone after the 2017 season.

But Scott was already in the running for some HC positions, so unless he gets paid a huge salary, he may peace out after one season even if he gets the OC job to run his own program.

If cza becomes the OC that would lesson his role as a recruiter and that is a factor. He has a huge role in recruiting.

I don't want to hire an OC that had to be babysat as a position coach.

If we are hiring from within I guess we just have to trust CBJ is making the right choice between the two. Not a lot of OC experience between the two. But Tee Martin didn't have OC experience until he did.

This is a big hire.
Tee Martin is a good counterpoint, admittedly

I'd like more info on the demise of the crouching tiger and 8 man receiver rotation. If it was a change CZA made on his own, I can support him. If it was forced upon him by Butch, then I highly question his ability as an independent play caller.

Considering that DeBord's planned departure was apparently known well in advance, I suspect CBJ has had his primary target (and plan B) in the works for some time. And, the multiple names being floated via the media are just a smokescreen.

With this in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an announcement/press conference by Friday. JMO.

According to 247, he is. Shoop has contacted him already.

The snippet from 247 you posted earlier mentioned a buy out if we hired the NCSU DB coach, right?. Do we know how big of a buyout that would be? It can't be too much for a position coach I would think.

Man. The more I watch Saquon Barkley the more I love him. IMO he is the best RB prospect since Adrian Peterson. His tape is more impressive than Leonard Fournette or Ezekiel Elliott. The kid reminds me of LaDanian Tomlinson.

Special player.

Shop has been in contact and there is mutual interest

I do wonder why he did not go to PSU with Franklin's staff though did find Franklin hired a PSU alum who was high school coaching in the area (Terry Smith). Prior experience with Shoop is a plus. Wonder is a LB coach would be the next domino

You really should just drop out of HS and become a real scout at this point.

You're letting millions slip right through your fingers!

I'd rather have just kept Debord than promote CZA and to a lesser extent CLS. Might as well have an experienced play caller run Butch's system instead of a first timer, of we're stuck with Butch's system.

I'll be so angry if Helfrich goes to ole miss or somewhere like that.

Edit guess OM made that hire, but the point remains.

CBJ wants to keep both Z and Scott and both coaches want and expect a promotion. There are contractual concerns with Helfrich. He doesn't want to be locked up, and UT wants a high buyout to keep him from Kiffining. Not a lot of motivation to work this out. And even less motivation to get a new AD onboard any time soon.

I know I'm in the minority but I'm fine with Scott as OC. My only concern with it is who will be the ST coordinator
