Hubbs this Morning

All of this discussion sounds like Butch has no interest in going outside the box and hiring a more dynamic guy to run the offense.

He'll do that on defense, since that isn't his domain, but since he considers the offense to be his baby he only wants people he can fully control there.

This sums up the truth perfectly

I've been as rough on Jones as anyone but there's a couple of ways to look at this.

One, hope to have continuity on O and let the improvements Shoop makes from year 1 to year 2 carry you. You avoid the risk of having a "new system" on O lower results... resulting in Jones' termination.

Two, swing for the fence and take a risk on hiring a "splash" OC and letting him try to change everything on O. Jones would have to hope that the changes went smoothly enough to avoid a major drop off on O that would cost him his job.

There are risks both ways. I'm not satisfied that Jones' O works against the better opponents. I'm not convinced it ever will. There were way too many times that Dobbs individually bailed Jones out when things broke down. But... Dooley tried to save himself by taking a homerun swing with Sunseri and a switch to the 3-4.

My guess is that Jones will go low risk... whatever that ends up being.

How much improvement if any comes when you lose arguably the best pass rusher at Tennessee ever. Your leading tackler, and your best Cover corner? They'll be a drop off it's hard to say improvement losing that much.

Expecting Larry or Zach to maintain or make the offense better is setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

Azzanni nor Scott are a "fit" according to what Jones said, however I do feel he's gonna stay in house

I feel the same way. This will just show how clueless Butch really is. Its like he is begging them to fire him. This will be the beginning of the end of the Butch Jones experiment.

The same people complaining now are the same ones who had a stroke over the hiring of DeBord and the Vols are coming off the most productive offense in Tennessee football history. Most yards gained and most TDs.

The Vols did finish 9-4 but the 4 cannot be blamed on the offense. If the Vols can keep the momentum the offense has had the last two years, they will be fine. Shoop will get his defense working.

Brent Hubbs has been on the radio all the way to work this morning he says the following:

1) Helfrich is not a very realistic option at this point.

2) Larry Scott is the leading candidate in house.

3) The downside to "in house" is that the Vols lost Nick Sheridan the de facto QB coach and needs a QB coach. Can they hire both an OC and a QB coach or do they need it as a package. If they want one guy, Scott is not it.

4) Rock Gullickson from the NFL/Rams will be hired this week as SC coach. Good hire.
If they promote Scott, they can hire a QB and allow Scott to still coach his position.
