If Helfrich doesn't come...

I've been as critical of Butch as anyone, but I don't think Debord leaves unless Butch has an upgrade in his back pocket. Trading Jancek for Shoop and Debord for Helfrich are, to me, great moves.

Just for fun, since it was a question of if helfrich doesnt come what about darrel hazell? not a good HC but as a associate head coach and wr/special teams guy he was apart of some really really good offenses at ohio state with some qbs and offenses similar to what we run. Wouldnt be a bad hire at all.
I almost spit my water out when I read this. No and I know Hazel personally. No just no.

Still like Helfrich but if it's not him, I've already mentioned Yurcich from OK state, but another guy I'd be interested in is Eric Morris from Texas Tech, with the drop off in wins and Kingsbury being on the hot seat Morris might be open to listening. He's put TTU top 10 in almost every major offensive category.

Big 12 looked decent in bowls this year too and he played lesser talent

Isn't it ironic that Butch always states that Tennessee is a destination job (which it is), but then likes to promote within or hire friends? It seems that he would actually let Tennessee attract an outside talent that wants to come in and help out our program, but instead he is too egocentric and wants to hire people he knows won't contest him.

I hope he doesn't botch this hire. With Shoop last year, I have faith in him to make a great hire though.

Jennings has been consistent and made plays.... Byrd has been very good for a rookie when he played... ZA's recruiting prowess and coaching has been just fine... People think because Dobbs can do no wrong, its the wideouts' fault that the passing numbers aren't better.

They drop 3-4 potential TDs in the Music City Bowl alone. Receivers and OL were the weak link in the passing game.

This is always the most entertaining part of the offseason

It truly is. Where else can you find so many experts, sharing so much knowledge and insight in such a short period of time? It's very educational....... oh, and entertaining.

I still believe it will be him but the geniuses that run the university believe it can be held off until the chancellor is on site full time, February

Seems silly not to get him in now so we can start to get things in place before NSD imo.

Dave Hart was asked point blank if Gruden was ever a serious consideration and he said no. Did that stop the Keyboard Crazys?

That's because Bama Dave killed the momentum! Good grief - Gruden just needed an AD with the vision and cajones to pull the trigger.

And we got Bama Dave. As we come to the end of the Bama Dave reign there is a serious argument that Hambone was the better AD!

It's like the wild wild west of opinions. I bet people on our staff read this for comedic relief after a hard day's work. At least it's generally civil and somewhat thoughtful.

LWS so you still feel confident about Blackburn it's just the university prefers to have him announced once Davenport is here? So who is signing these contracts and helping Butch with new hires until then, Gilbert?! An insider in the RF believes Tennessee will hire Gilbert when it's all said and done, especially if he is doing these contracts, please tell us that will not happen. Why even get rid of Hart if that's the case and he's never been an AD! Thanks again!

DiPeitro will approve the contracts and Gilbert will bring the information him. I believe it will still be Blackburn who is hired as AD

Rumors created by UT fans. If Helfrich said he wanted the job that's one thing. But the BS you're hearing is just that...RUMOR!

Helfrich was in town visiting Marcus Mariota and just decided to come out and watch Tennessee's bowl practice while he was in town. From that, some genius had him hired at Tennessee. And, because the pipe dream is not coming true, many of you want Butch fired.

O ya? How much time did he hang out at Nebraska's practice?

Thanks LWS. So the university basically wants to wait until Davenport is here so she can have a part in Blackburn being announced? Is there any question that it will be him at this point? Because Gilbert still has support which scares many of us. My question is does Blackburn have any part right now in these assistant coach discussions and hirings? If he is going to be the hire- you would think he would be included in some fashion. This is such a critical hire and Butch, Rick, and Holly shouldn't get to pick their boss, as has been mentioned in why they all want Gilbert.

Well, we've been hearing rumors about Helfrich coming to TN as either a QB coach, OC or both (OC/QB) before it was officially announced that Debord would leave.

If Helfrich was only interested in taking the job if it was the OC job, then he has it.

I think CBJ was talking to him to come as a QB coach with a possibility of DeBord stepping down later.

But now it's official. If Helfrich doesn't come to TN, then I think he trolled Butch. Leading him on to think he'll come here, when in reality he wants to cuddle with Chip Kelly somewhere.

The rumors always begin here on Volnation.

The Helfrich thing worries me because of Chip Kelly. If Kelly comes back to college in the next year, his first call for an OC will most likely be Helfrich and he'd probably bounce from Tennessee and we're back in the same spot.

Hopefully we get a young creative OC and Butch will let him add to the offense

well until he is announced something else is always possible. I believe it will be David but anything could happen.

I would not be surprised if he hasn't been talked with regarding contracts.. I can't tell you it is a fact
