If Helfrich doesn't come...

Azzani will be promoted OC/WR coach if Helfrich doesn't come in IMO. That's the "plan".

Has to be a Shoop magnitude type hire for us to avoid Azzani being promoted, and I honestly haven't followed any names to know who is as good of an option as Helfrich. I really hope its him.
Top notch DC and top notch OC and no conference championships will make the decision to cut Butch easy, or if we wins one its telling that he has learned to get out of the way so UT can win.

The names on the radio here in Knoxville are Ken Dorsey, Matt LaFleur, Bo Hardegree, and Mike Yurcich...

who knows.

"Mentioned on the radio" was Hyams saying these are names his sources have mentioned and he also said the whole Helfrich thin is not real. Except for Yurcich (Oklahoma State OC) the others are all NFL guys with good resumes. Go ahead and flame away at Hyams as usual but he's usually more right than most.

Dave Hart was asked point blank if Gruden was ever a serious consideration and he said no. Did that stop the Keyboard Crazys?

A better question would have been if it was really true that the Gruden negotiations broke down because of assistant coaching salaries?

The thing is , Butch better hope he gets the hire right because he is coaching for his job from here on out. He might want to put his ego aside and not only do what is best for UT but for his career.

I believe Helfrich dropped off his offensive gameplan for the Music City Bowl when he visited practice. Debord spent the week sampling numerous hot chicken establishments and was able to relax for his pending move to Indiana. Hence Dobbs' above average success in the downfield passing game. Butch was pleased with the dress rehearsal and will hire Helfrich.

I agree with you, a lot of times it's not what you want to hear, but he doesn't miss much.

I think you are right, Duncan. The hire is in place if Debord is taking another job.

Indiana announced the firing of their OC and recruiting guy monday. The next day, DeBord is officially announced.

That's super quick.

I can imagine that Helfrich is still 50/50 on the proposed job offer.

Imagine that you live 2 bedroom apt. Your roomate tells you he's looking to leave and that you may have to get another roommate. Instead of posting online for a roommate you talk among friends/coworkers you might know. One person said they are 50/50... but is waiting on something. You convince them to just take the month to month instead of yearly lease. So now, you do the credit check.. but this new guy is holding you up and says "I won't know till the 21st" But you need to fill it by the 30th!.. It's only the 3rd, and your current roommate says he just landed a place. You say, go ahead and leave, because this jerk guy might not commit. I'll have to post online and look for other candidates.

Basically, DeBord leaving so quickly allows Butch to look for more candidates.

Well, we've been hearing rumors about Helfrich coming to TN as either a QB coach, OC or both (OC/QB) before it was officially announced that Debord would leave.

If Helfrich was only interested in taking the job if it was the OC job, then he has it.

I think CBJ was talking to him to come as a QB coach with a possibility of DeBord stepping down later.

But now it's official. If Helfrich doesn't come to TN, then I think he trolled Butch. Leading him on to think he'll come here, when in reality he wants to cuddle with Chip Kelly somewhere.

I've seen nothing from the man that he was even interested, only speculation on a message board from fans.

No way UT doesn't match what Indiana offered Debord unless the pieces were already in place to replace him.

From what I have read, It's not the money. He was going to retire to spend time with his family. Getting hired by Indiana is like spending time with his family and getting paid for it. He is from Muncie Indiana and played ball at Ball State. This move puts him a lot closer to his family.

then I sadly have to say he trolled Butch.

Who would be our back up candidates if Helfrich ditches us?

The announcers mentioned why Helfrich was there. Had nothing to do with being our OC. Don't remember what it was, but it wasn't us.

If Helfrich doesn't take it then someone else will. There will be football played at UT in 2017.
