I am thinking Helfrich, because wouldn't he have already been hired by now by another team? I would think he would have been on the market for less than a week.

It's simple. I think ChipK was behind their success. When he left so did their success. Just look at this years results. Helfrich offense failed to score 30pts in 5 of his 8 PAC12 games. Tennessee scored 30pts in 6 of 8 SEC games. I see no reason whatsoever to get excited about a coach that made his name under ChipK and saw his offense decline steadily after he left.

I will take continuity from within because the offense was damn good this year. Much better than Oregons and in a much tough defensive league.

So one not great year from Helfrich supercedes all the great ones?

Then explain 2015 season w/o CCK or MM. 8th in total yards and 9th in points in nation

I have been over this. Pace, plays per second, Possessions per game, pts per play and more importantly schedule strength are the stats to look at.

I don't have to look at all of those stats to know that those things have declined since Kelly left.

We have a great chance to upgrade at OC.

I wasn't a huge Debord hater or anything. I've tried to stay positive about him. But his game plans against South Carolina, App State and Bama were straight up wretched.

We need more innovation and adaptability from that role.

That being said, he called some great games along the way. But not enough explosion with the weapons he had. He never really figured out how to use Kamara consistently. Besides just throwing him endless swing passes. He rarely got him into space. So many of his yards came after making the first guy miss. He is gonna ball out at the next level.

What happened to all the short passes over the middle from the A&M game?

I'm excited about a change here. Hopefully the hire is good. Helfrich makes a ton of sense but I'm open to other options.

But if it's Azzani I'm gonna be real sad.

I am right in line with this. I every week see offenses scheme people wide open

It felt like our big plays were guys making defenders miss whether it be Dobbs or the rbs

Hard to give credit for yards after contact to the OC or scheme

I think we have a real opportunity to upgrade

i think next year we go 12-2 with two losses to bama and win the east. sugar

Would take it, but hopefully some new staff can get us to win one of those. I wonder what the ceiling could be for a JG led vols with Helfrich calling the plays and a defense fully turned over to Shoop with Sirmon at LB coach developing players and Fair doing his thing for the DB's. Osborne and others could greatly benefit from him. We definitely need better linebacker development.

Clueless IMO. Great first year as HC. 2nd year in CFB playoff (won a playoff game btw), top 20 in 2015 - great offense, bad 2016 year again led by defensive lapses

Great years as OC

But he wants CZA

I mean for $/;-$ sake

I am not a football expert, but RB's have to make defenders miss. You aren't going to scheme a run where the RB doesn't have to make someone miss. That's why you recruit elite RB's.

You also get guys "in space" because they can make people miss. Debord actually had several pass plays the last two years that got Hurd and even Kamara open. The only issue I had was not using more of the middle of the field.

Listening to Trevor Matich as a guest on a show on 102.5 in Nashville. Mentioned that Helfrich would be a home run hire and would bring fireworks to UTs offense. He mentioned that it is rumored that Helfrich is the top choice and he thinks will happen. He did mention Oregon and how he was fired and he said the things that Helfrich failed at he wouldn't be doing at UT. He thinks Helfrich is a top notch OC and would fit very well with what UT wants to do.
