You may be the only person on VN to think that bruin. Lol

It's simple. I think ChipK was behind their success. When he left so did their success. Just look at this years results. Helfrich offense failed to score 30pts in 5 of his 8 PAC12 games. Tennessee scored 30pts in 6 of 8 SEC games. I see no reason whatsoever to get excited about a coach that made his name under ChipK and saw his offense decline steadily after he left.

I will take continuity from within because the offense was damn good this year. Much better than Oregons and in a much tough defensive league.

I get excited for every coaching hire thinking THIS is gonna be the time we make a big splash hire. Nope. Not falling for it this time. It's gonna be somebody Butch has worked with before and we will all be disappointed.

This is logical. But it is also possible that he did well as the OC for CCK but couldn't run the entire program well enough to win. Maybe being a successful OC is his strength.

You've got to think that if Debord was going to retire, this has been planned for a while. I'm sure there's already been a list of possible hires discussed and reviewed. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a front runner already. You'd think Butch wouldn't allow Debord to make his decision public without being prepared to name a new OC especially this close to NSD.

On second thought Shool was the big splash everybody wanted last year and it actually happened....... Helfrich it is. Boom!

Was Kelly or Helfrich the actual playcaller at that time?

The answer to this could change my opinion slightly if it was Helfrich.

He was breaking in a new qb just like he would be next next. There isn't going to be a one year mulligan for this one like Shoop got. It's put out of get out this year.

QBs all have different abilities. See USC pre and post Darnold. See TCU this year.

Are you suggesting not a good play caller in general?
