Butch has proven he will go get his man. He could have contacted Chip to discuss Helfrich. All signs seem to point to this as the most likely and also positive outcome.

Until Helfrich is eliminated this is who I think it will be.

Honestly I think it would make it less likely to happen. If the team is really good, Butch will likely get extended, and Kelly probably moves on. If we are really bad, Kelly's name is probably tainted with the rest of the staff.

If it goes bad, Butch will be the scapegoat and Chip will be the darling with National Championship game and NFL experience and will be promoted.

You mean as HC? Have a feeling he will get an NFL HC job this year too.

I am hopeful he is front runner for HC if CBJ doesn't work out. So yeah, bring him in as OC and then replace. Not sure he gets an NFL nod this year, but could. Makes since, but he could benefit from HC experience at college level...?

JBC wont get a HC job this year. I think he needs one more strong year to get on the radar as a NFL HC.

Why would he jump from Lions OC to Vols OC?

"With the Vols losing four of their final seven games this season, UT fans have had enough of Butch Jones. And that shouldn’t get any better with virtually every key player leaving following this season.

It seems very realistic that the Vols could make a coaching move within the next 12 months, and if they do, Kelly would have to be at the top of their list."

Kelly would be an absolute home run.

Depends. If the offense looks bad, which it may very well, Kelly probably won't be much of a darling. Shoop was a sacred cow here at this point last year, now he's probably 50-50 as far as if VN wants to keep him.

Has anybody heard from volatil? Kinda worried about him.

He's good, last I heard. He and my wife are coworkers and it's been ridiculously busy lately.

He didn't tell me where he was going but he's been working a lot and spending time with family before his medical mission trip, of which he's currently on, I believe.

Thanks for the info. Just got a little concerned about him.

Shoop was really well liked in coaching circles and among really close followers of college football.

Chip Kelly is another level of celebrity. It would be one thing if we had been great and then hired Chip and all of sudden couldn't move the ball. But there are already people that want Butch gone and think he is the problem. People would almost certainly spin things to say Butch wouldn't get out of the way and let Chip do his job. Whether that would be true or not probably wouldn't matter.

That's just what I think. This is all a moot point anyways.

Is it too early to be thinking about Jim Bob? Know he is on some NFL lists, has NFL OC experience, and is given credit as having a Manning like mind and approach to the game.

Jim bob would be on the VOLS head coach list, I would think. He's considered a great OC in the nFL.

Not impressed with the piece on UT.

virtually every key player leaving following this season.

Oh, the ones we played without almost the entire season outside of Dobbs and Barnett? Dobbs hurts the most by far since there is an unknown at QB. Barnett was individually great and is irreplaceable. However, the defense should be better overall next season.

It seems very realistic that the Vols could make a coaching move within the next 12 months

Based on what? "Very realistic" was a very poor choice of words.

From earlier in the article:

But as far as Kelly's interest goes, remember that this is a guy who absolutely loathed the recruiting process during his stint at Oregon, and you could argue that Notre Dame – a school which has to recruit nationally to stay competitive – is the toughest school to recruit at in the country.

Tennessee has to recruit heavily outside its borders in the most competitive region in the country, the southeast. One of the main reasons CBJ has seen any success at all so far is due to his recruiting and revitalizing the roster. So, how can the article then say this on UT?

If Kelly returns to college football, this seems like a near-perfect fit.

Probably over-analyzing, but I think that's a pretty poorly written piece in regards to UT.

More coaching names..

From the NFL tree that we mentioned earlier:

Not sure if anything will come of these names, however here are three.

Ken Dorsey, qb coach with the Carolina Panthers
LeFluer, qb coach with the Atlanta Falcons, was with Butch at Central Michigan
Bo Hardegree, qb coach with the Dolphins
