Debord to Indiana as OC

We set a single season record with 473 points and 63 touchdowns this season. But, he's not a good coordinator. You guys are just hell bent on a NAME. Some don't like Debord because they don't like Butch.

I don't think the frustration has been with offensive production as much as it has been with the way that Butch just hired a yes man that would do whatever butch wanted him to offensively. I remember when Debord was hired and the common thought was "...who in the world is mike Debord". It was obvious from the start what was going on because quite frankly I don't believe for a second that old mikey who coached in the slow big 10 in the 90's is a fan of being in shotgun on third down. That was just something that came with the territory of being butchs yes man.

Nothing against Debord as he seems like a likable fella, but a lot of those stats are due to Dobbs turning broken plays into big gains. Too many games I have seen the last 2 years where our offense gets bogged down in big games due to us not taking shots down the field and trying to establish a 'power' running game from shotgun. Time for Butch to acknowledge the MAC offense won't get us to the next level and bring a creative mind in to get us to the title game.

Not sure Debord was the issue. I think the issue is a paranoid, micromanaging HC. The same HC who refused to play Dobbs his first 2 seasons until he had no choice. Maybe I'm wrong.

DeBord was not the issue, and those who think Helfrich is the answer to all of UT's problems are delusional.

He got fired. No one leaves UT for the same position at a basketball school of his own accord.

If Helfrich does indeed come and the offense is still stagnant then you know it's Butch having too much control. Helfrich is an excellent OC and QB coach. He played a huge role in developing Mariota who was a three star recruit.

Yes and no. Many just reflexively blame the OC when something goes wrong, despite the facts you mentioned.

However, even more totally separate their dislike of Debord from Jones. In other words, they defend Jones to the hilt while blaming everything on Debord and calling for his dismissal. It's kinda bizarre to me. On balance, Debord did a good job this year and was not the reason for the disappointing season.

The longer this is drug out the hopes of Blackburn get smaller and smaller

Not really. He's still the odds on favorite according to those in the know. They are just placating Davenport take over the role as chancellor. Of course there is one idiot booster that has some sort of issue with Blackburn. Hopefully the other power players can keep him at bay.

This is just dumb. Dobbs had a great year throwing the ball.

You have to keep those stats in the context of the schedule. The only decent defenses that we played against were VA Tech, Florida, Alabama, and A&M, yet we still struggled offensively against App State, and we still couldn't put up enough points to overcome Vandy and USCe.

I agree my bigger "Oh Dang" about this was seems to indicate Mahoney is sticking around which I was sure he was gone.

This is a clear sign of Helfrich IMO

DeBord did a very solid job. I'd go as far to say a good job as our OC. You wouldn't let him go unless it was for a very clear upgrade.

Signs point to Helfrich, who likely will recruit better than DeBord and can coach QBs (which we desperately need)

Butch hired Debord because he has a history with him and also was his OC when Debord was a HC. I understand the relationship because they have a similar philosophy in play calling. It doesn't mean he's a yes man to Butch.
