Regarding Mixon:
'Double jeopardy' exists. Legally, you can't be tried twice for a single offense. Yet it seems like that is what most people want after the recent release of the video. When he committed the crime, he was suspended for a year. You could argue that the punishment was too light, and I'd completely agree. But right or wrong, that was the punishment. I don't see the logic in re-suspending him just because the video put this freshly into everybody's minds again. In my opinion, the chatter shouldnt be Why is Mixon allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl? The chatter should be Why did Bob Stoops allow him to remain on the football team in the first place? And that chatter should have happened two-and-a-half years ago when the incident occurred and the suspension was announced. Not now, when people saw the video and finally realized what a man breaking a womans face looks like.
I will never root for Joe Mixon. I will never wish him well. With that said, I acknowledge that a man is defined by the sum of his actions, not just a single instance. I hope, as I do for any man, that he has learned and improved as a person from this. I cant control whether hes given a shot in the NFL or not. But in the event that somebody signs him, then I hope he spends his career as a positive influence to prevent violence against women. Hell have the money and the visibility to make a real, tangible impact, and I hope he uses it.
