Yeah I have a feeling Lane was trying to do too much and that upset Saban. Just makes no sense to not keep running. Even when Washington knew what was coming they couldn't stop it.

I'm sure Sark will be better in the long run but definitely a terrible time to dust off the cobwebs of playcalling. Just shows how much confidence Saban must have had left in Kiffin to tell him to Git at this point.

Agree. How many times did Kiffin need to see the deer in the headlights look from Hurts on the keepers and passes before he took his cue? He never did. Little Nicky was getting somewhat agitated during the game. Sark was charting up in the booth and probably saw the mistakes. He's a sharp coach. Hopefully he has his personal problems behind him.

Randy Shannon is the "interim" DC for.fl today, would he be an upgrade over what they had bc I assume he will be named dc

We're in the SEC East. We can't really talk.

Even when we were lower in the SEC East standings, we were beating BIG 10 teams that were higher in their respective division standings. Just like the SEC, the BIG 10 only has one good division but their weak division doesn't match up to the SEC East.

I hope for Sarks case has put those problems behind him. I never want to see anyone succumb to the problems he's been dealing with.

I do hope every Third Saturday In October he has a terrible game plan though. Lol.

I actually think he is right on this one. Butch has, whether it is justified or not, lost support from the center.

Why fan this flame? Sold out bowl game. We all get that the fan base is looking for improvement in 2017.

Like 2016:

Get a new S & C coach.

Need to let some assistants go.

Shouldn't have lost to OU & UF.

Fire DeBord.

Well yeah. Some things change, some don't. Tone is the same.

When healthy, outside of tOSU, UM, and maybe PSU or Wiscy, what BIG 10 teams would beat us? Nebraska? Iowa? Illini? UI? Minnesota? Mich State? NW?

I see your faith in the BIG disappeared like mine. What a crock of a conference.

Not really, about match ups. Still think it was best overall and better than SEC. I didn't think it was head and shoulders better than everyone else like SEC a few years back though.

Much more parity IMO.

Well I give you +1 imaginary internet points for not buying in.

But buying in or not isn't really the relevant point. The mere fact that those things have happened and we've seen so much smoke are indicators of fan support that shouldn't just be ignored.

Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, jones is at a bit of a precipice right now. A lot of people who were full on Butch supporters a year ago are now on the fence (or completely off the fence in extreme circumstances) about whether he'll be able to take this program where it needs to go.

A lot of people have moved their opinions of Butch from "I love what he's doing here" to "he deserves a chance to rearrange his staff and show us what he can do next year." And that means something.

I really do think that if the guy was a better fit culturally in Knoxville, had a bit more character and flare to show fans at times, and conducted himself better on the sidelines during games, he'd have less people who have shifted their opinions so much on him.

Those things aren't really important to how well a coach can prepare his teams for games or recruit, but at a school like UT, fan perception matters. Once you lose the fans, it's just a matter of time before you're gone. I don't think Butch has lost the fanbase yet, but his stock has definitely taken a sizeable hit.

I think the cultural fit thing is a touch overblown (as far as eroding support) considering people almost constantly said "Butch gets it" his first couple seasons here.

His support isn't what it was 99% because of W/Ls. I won't say it hasn't slipped, but I don't think it's anywhere close to what Dooley's was heading into 2012.

His public persona could improve. Does it wear on some fans? Of course it does, but to steal a wrestling term, it's the smarks that get upset by it and they are far from a sizeable portion of the fans. Plus, I think it's the most simple thing to correct once an AD is on board.

Well I can't watch the Florida/Iowa game because it's blacked out where I'm at, so I'm stuck watching this ****ty Cotton Bowl.

Not bad points.

Still an easily noticeable different edge around here now compared to last year.
