Georgia Tech with a message to Tennessee....

So let me get this straight, in year 5, we are in a rebuilding year?

I get that this is a message board but I get so tired of all you supposed Vol fans dogging the team. If you don't like what you see, just find something else to watch. Do you guys ever see any positive in your life or is it so crummy this is what makes you feel good about yourself??

I wonder if we can get the invocation for the game changed up a bit? "Lord we ask that you protect these players from Georgia Tech's cut blocking, chop blocking, and clipping, and especially protect their ankles and knees." I would love to know how many teams walk away from Georgia Tech games with players out for the season.

This thread didn't even make it past the first page before we've already lost the game against them. Haha

New QB running their squad for the first time in a real game... He'll make some mistakes.

He knows he's catching us in a rebuilding year. Not sure what they're bringing back, but the beauty of that system is that they can succeed with lesser talent. Will be a tough, tough opener.

"Rebuilding year"? If we're "rebuilding" next year, we're definitely not doing it right.

We lost our QB and our best players to the draft... how is next year not a rebuilding year?

You're kidding right? Year 5 and we're rebuilding? No, if we've developed our players correctly, we should be able to plug and play and not miss much of a beat. That's what the best programs, the best head coaches, the best staffs do. Rebuilding suggest that we're starting over, starting from scratch....in year 5, no way a program like Tennessee should be doing that. It's a bit corny and over played, but the saying "they don't rebuild, they just reload" should apply here.

So champion mediocrity or get out? Since UT hired Dooley the coaching bar is forever to be set at "better than Dooley"?

I guess from now on we should join the ranks of Kentucky and Vanderbilt fans, and set our season goal as making it to any bowl game.

The only coach I can think of that doesn't have a rebuilding year is Saban. They happen when senior leadership has to be sought from other players, key talent at impact positions graduates or gets drafted, and if coaching changes occur. All of the above are happening for next season. Remember what happens when expectations are set too high.

This is just hilarious to me ...we are still trying to put a bow on the 2016 season and we are already arguing about the opening game of next season ....holy cow...

Yeah it is a hard pill to swallow, but at least we can blame it on the opposing teams head coach

Not for sure how many where around here in 1998 the first season after Peyton left ....we thought we were going to be terrible and our offense would be horrible..... maybe some of you do not know what happened....look it up....

I don't think anyone thought we would be horrible in 98. A step back? Yes but not horrible by any stretch.

Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson....

“We’re 3-0 in the SEC East and have Tennessee next.” - @GTPaulJohnson

Awfully bold Coach Johnson. Thanks for the bulletin board material.

Here's how I interpret it --

We’re 3-0 in the SEC East and have Tennessee next. So while this streak will come to an end on our opening game, we'll still have the remainder of our season for good things ahead.

Look at the recruiting the years prior to 98, and then compare it to the recruiting that we've seen the last 4 years. The only reason our recruiting ranking has been as high as it has, it because of sheer numbers.

We are losing in the trenches because we are recruiting predominantly 3* players, and then not developing them into better players; some even regress under Butch's system.
