I think the SEC will be mediocre again outside of Bama next year. That could help Butch.

If no one is really succeeding on a major level, but Butch is winning a couple big games a year, keeping us ranked, and winning bowl games, I think he stays for a while.

People will keep buying tickets as long as we keep going bowling and fielding a respectable team.

The wildcard is Blackburn itching to put his stamp on the program and maybe even having the inside track on a "big fish" hire.

No, our line started the year with too many injuries and very little depth. Hall and Thomas both hurt to start season. Dooley's failure to sign a single olineman in his last year (we should have had at least 2 5th year senior olinemen this year) and our staff's misses with Blair, Raulerson, etc gave us no depth for this year.
2017 should be a very good year for oline. We have the most depth that we have had in about 12 years.

That was not the narrative going into the season but ok.

Appears Butch is actually overachieving for what we pay him. He's an average coach making average SEC coach money.

Wanna be better in football yearly? Pay your football coach what it takes to win. Simple

Well you have to have the opening in the right years. Bama, o state, & Michigan all were very luck that the big fish was avl when they had the opening

If tressel doesn't lie, Brees signs with Miami, or the San Fran GM isn't a Moran none of those programs get their HR guy

Lsu had to settle for coach O, Florida for macklewain, bama and Michigan had bad hires prior to their HR hires

So if CKelly is there I'm with the part with butch camp. If not I'll pass and give
Him more time

Three years for Tom Arth to season. :)

Even better, go spend whatever it takes to get Fuente.

Ohio State had to manufacture that opportunity for Meyer. Will never believe him "retiring to spend time with family" happens without Tressell getting axed. Fickell taking one for the team to babysit the Buckeyes while Urban basically redshirted at ESPN was collusion of the first order IMO.

We had our window the year Butch was hired.

We have a lot leaving too.

The things people are counting on are complete unknowns IMO

I understand optimism, but I think people are letting optimism cloud judgement and analysis.

Saying things like JG or QD will come in and be good are complete conjecture. Nobody knows.

We don't know what our staff will look like

Etc..

When you recruit well, you're gonna lose good players.

Most historical programs are within the same range that we are. It's not an effective argument in my opinion.

I certainly think Fulmer's run inflated some expectations for our program, and it influenced a generation of fans. Unfortunately, college football and the SEC are different now. The money has made it uber competitive, and everyone is building facilities and hiring coaches.

Agree on absolutes but imo it's hard to imagine a scenario where he's 8-4 and loses the east and we retain him.

He burned up his equity in 2015 (OU, UF) and 2016 (SC, VU). He is being given 2016 to get it done. This will be his first team with 100% his players and the senior class is the 2014 class.

They would not pay him 8 mil and fire him. I do think he would not be extended however, and 2018 would be the year to have a championship of the east at a minimum or he would be gone if someone they really wanted were available. They buyout would be more manageable then or he would leave on his own. Him leaving on his own if that played out would be better. You fire him too quickly and no one wants to come here. If we win eight next year he stays and could be the case even if 7-5. I still think he can do it big here but if he wins 7 or less next year, then I would change my tune.

5 years isn't too soon. The roster will still be good enough to win early for a new coach in 2018. That's attractive. Nobody is gonna think we fired him too early after 5 years and no division title.

I'm not even saying that we'd make a good hire or that I would think that after 8-4 he could never get it done. I'm saying that 8-4 next year he will lose the fanbase and it's gonna be time to move on. We will pay the $7.5m to run him. Paid $6 for Dooley. $7.5 for Butch isn't any harder to pay.

Dooley never won eight and was asking out the year before. If CBJ was doing Dooley right now which he is not even close, they might pay 10 mil to get rid of him. We need an AD that knows how to set up contracts however in a big way.
