Which means he just needs to come to Knoxville. :)

That's the one thing I question about Fuente. His turnaround at Memphis started with mostly veteran players that he didn't recruit. Lynch was his recruit, but you can't diamonds in the rough all the time at big schools. He is great at development, but his one question mark is recruiting at a very high level. He is smart but no-nonsense and personality does not relate to recruiting. JMO.

Nah.

He can't and will never recruit like those two can at Va Tech

This is about their ceiling

I think he can beat either of those guys in a CC game. Sustaining FSU or Clemson level success is another story.

Get a staff that can and you're set.

We aren't in the same place with respect to football but you've been spot on regarding basketball.

Meant to respond to this the other day.

I love UT basketball. I spent majority of my posting years in the hoops forum before I found the recruiting forum and migrated here. Much better scene.

I don't think we are that far off on our football thoughts though. Like I said in another post, the difference is what we focus on. I have kinda accepted that Butch is gonna be here next year and honestly I think he deserves that. He's done a lot of good things. Do I think he will hoist trophies over his head? I'm leaning towards no at the moment but I'm not giving up on him just yet. I want him to win big and there's still a chance he may. And we would be in a great spot next fall to hire a coach if we have to.

We will surprise some people this year. Great defense, and when are shooters are on we can play with anyone.

The defense has been inconsistent, but if it continues like it was tonight, we will win a lot of games. We still need to get more defensive rebounds when we get the stops, but i am impressed with how well this young team has played.

Can't say it enough. We need to get our S&C program back on track.

That is the biggest hire.

I would go after Cochran and over him 1m a year. He is 37 and a huge reason Bama has stayed at the top.

The real secret to alabubba's success.

Crazy stat I just ran across in an article on the defense:

"Tennessee’s defense was allowing 360.8 yards per game through the first five games of the season to rank 43rd in the country. In the last three games, the Vols have allowed 627.7 yards of offense to fall to 110th in the country in total defense (460.2 yards per game)."

I know a lot of fans hate hearing it but injuries absolutely gutted us. Without them we simply don't lose against Vandy and USC and we also likely pull off the win against TAMU despite all the turnovers we committed that game.

That said, even though we will have a few players like Kirkland and Sutton who benefited from the extra time to heal I'm still nervous about the D tomorrow. I know that as a unit they want a chance at redemption from those last three games but when you play 27 different starters on defense in a single season even the word catastrophic seems a bit lacking to describe the injury situation given that term is often used for teams that only lose something like 3 or 4 starters on a unit.

Hopefully, just getting a few of our key players healthier and giving the guys who have been forced to play positions they're not entirely comfortable with or physically built for more time to learn and improve takes us back around to being much more functional on D despite the situation. There's always a tipping point with injuries even when you have depth and I'm hoping the health scenario has tipped back to enough to handle Nebraska.

Probably just the optimist in me, but I'm chalking up a big part of the defensive struggles (other than injuries) to Shoop not having his own guys to work with and adapting his scheme to work with what we did under Jancek.

At Vandy and PSU, his defensive looks were a lot different. He didn't use a SS/OLB hybrid at all this year, and that's been one of his most vital guys in his past jobs.

I hate that all the negative stuff has distracted us from the upcoming game.

I've been as critical of this staff as anyone, but it just struck me today how last year we spent all December talking about the bowl matchup and what we might see and how this year we've barely touched on it at all in here.

I'm hoping we'll see a dominating defensive performance tomorrow to give us momentum into 2017!

And I'm pumped to see one more game with Dobbs and Kamara lining up in the backfield. Let's take it to Nebraska! GBO!
