We will see. I would be surprised if he returns. He's had a really good year and next year as a senior he is not sure who his quarterback is going to be. He certainly has to look hard at coming out.
-Hubbs on Malone

My early take on next year is that our ceiling is 11-1 and our floor is 4-8. 11-1 would mean we caught some breaks, stayed healthy, the defense became a top 20 unit and JG is as good as advertised. 4-8 is possible if we lose the opener and the game against Florida. I could see the bottom completely falling out in that scenario.

I honestly have no idea which way we will go. Should be entertaining to watch!

But whatever happens in the near term, I'm bullish on the Vols in the long term (at least for as long as college football exists in its current form ).

I kind of have the feeling Shoop didn't use one because he didn't have a guy he liked to put there. Tried to sell Stevens and Gibbs on being that guy. Both nope'd out.

That may be the case, but I've also seen it suggested on here that Jones basically had him call the plays out of Jancek's playbook to try to ease the transition. Besides, Stephens and Gibbs wouldn't have been available this year anyway. Maleik Gray seems to fit the star profile pretty well; sounds like he's even playing a similar hybrid role at the UA all star game right now.

Hubbs on the new chancellor having a say in the AD search:

It seems like she's not just going to rubber stamp a hire. She wants a say. I don't think that eliminates Blackburn but I think it means there's going to be a "search" that she's involved in.

Wow... Since P Williams left, Perry left, and Malone probably leaving, do we have to keep Byrd at WR now?

I personally don't see the need since the only thing they have in common is they both catch balls from the QB.

Byrd seems like a first round talent at DB to me so I hope they make the move. Could have used him there this season too.

I noted a few days ago that UT had reached out to a search firm. I wonder if that is per the new chancellor's request?

Hiring a search firm when the obvious AD hire is 112 miles away and doing the exact same job in the exact same university system while having tremendous success is a classic Tennessee move.

I too hope he goes to DB. I'd rather have a more run oriented offense and a better defense with Byrd back there.
