'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

Sure Alabama does, as well as FSU historically and Clemson as of late, but there are several programs that recruit extremely well that haven't won on a consistent basis with their recruiting rankings: Georgia, Notre Dame, USC since the mid 2000's, Texas, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Miami, Michigan, Texas A & M, Ole Miss, and teams like South Carolina or North Carolina both have been consistently ranked in the top 20 recruiting rankings yet fail to maintain that level of success on the field. No to mention other teams like Baylor and TCU that rarely crack the top 25 on a consistent basis.

Until Tennessee has some real success another way, I will be convinced that the only way we will win at the level we all want to is by winning in February.

Bama and OSU both have HOF coaches. Washington is in the playoff this year with what would generally be considered "garbage" recruiting classes. Clemson didn't have elite recruiting classes until they started being in national contention.

Oh really? Kelly was a non factor til Hurd quit. He is a good RB but not elite like Chandler and Akers are. It's not stupidity to fathom Kelly being replaced mid year. But keep up the insults, you seem to be good at it.

Brice had said a week or so ago that he Had several coaches compare Akers recruitment to a College Basketball AAU recruitment. It appears he was right with all the back and forth nobody knows and it is never over till the announcement. I for one think this is when losing to Vandy really hurts because desparate recruiters will harp on that choke and the 247 article in times like this.

I never expected us to get him so won't bother me butnt would have been awesome. Kelly/Chandler combo will work justnfine

Agree 100%. I love my Vols but watching their defense this year was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Getting Akers would be amazing but if our D can't stop anyone, what does it matter who is playing RB?

Akers is coming to Rocky Top. You all can flame me later, but my gut is still telling me he and his family's relationship with Coach G wins out. If not, then we really can't be that disappointed. Ty Chandler is a very good RB prospect and we still have two more years of Kelly with Fils-Aime bringing some speed to the equation.
