CBJ comments on other coaches asking for advice

Not saying he gets a pass for poor self awareness with press or losses at SC and Vandy. But players like him and seems as though recruits all note the family atmosphere in their commitment comments. Jones probably could have framed the champions of life thing differently, but he was coming from a good place when he said it...just don't think it deserves a month long lashing, when everyone can see that he has kids out doing more community service and keeping out of trouble. He just needs to not lose to Vandy.

Yep, if we are 9-3 and in the Sugar Bowl none of the stupid stuff he says really matters. But we are not and in four years, Butch has not proven that he can manage the program to lead it to a high level of winning. Therefore his performance on the field along with saying dumb things does not look good for CBJ inability to handle criticism.

I haven't found a full transcript; just some quotes in a few places. Pretty sure it was just a standard pre bowl presser.

Funny thing was, I was looking for some context and in the next comments, I think he said resolve or resiliency 4 or 5 times.

butch gonna butch

According to some of our "brilliant fans" we're the ONLY team that shouldn't be impacted by a ton of key injuries.
Dumbest fans in America eh Clay Travis? I owe clay an apology for defending our fans.

When they got off the bus in Nashville, he dropped in both a couple of times. Oh, and leadership.

According to some of our "brillant fans" we lost to Vandy due to injuries. Dumbest fans in America eh Clay Travis? I owe clay an apology for our fans still defending Butch Jones.

I get what you're saying, but the problem is, one guy is a journalist.

How is that a problem?

According to other journalists I heard talk about this (Brent Hubbs, Paul Fortenberry and Chris Low) anonymous sources are used all the time. Otherwise, you're never gonna get inside information on anything.

PFort says he does it all the time with recruits and where they may be leaning as a example....sometimes you get the direct quote from a named source, other times you get information that you wouldn't otherwise get from an anonymous source who needs to maintain confidentiality.

Haney is a well-respected, credible journalist who explained his methods and what his article was initially intended to do....he wasn't out to write a hit piece, only to see what was going on with a program that appeared to be in a bit of turmoil from the outside looking in. Given what we saw this season, it really shouldn't surprise anyone that there was a lot of negative feedback from within. Many of the anonymous quotes seemed square up 100% with the image Jones projects imo.

Come on Volfan, we were missing 3 defensive starters. Why, how in the world could we be expected to beat a bad, 5-win Vandy team full of NR, 2 star and 3 star athletes with a bad head coach still cutting his teeth figuring out how to be more than a D.C.? It's just not logical I tell ya.

I was initially outraged with Travis when he put us in the "dumbest fan bases in America" list, I thought he was being ridiculous. However, just a handful of ReaderVol's "posts" alone gives Clay all the evidence he needs to make the claim.

I really don't understand why people hang on to every single word he says

Reminds me of the press and Donald Trump. Every word provokes such outrage and butthurt. It's so absurd that it's comical

I know right, you see what PowerhiuseVandy is doing to NC State? 3 points and 62 passing yards in the first half. Clearly a validation of what a juggernaut they are becoming. All of the sudden I feel really good about us going to the MCB instead of the Sugar Bowl.

Yes, and let's not forget that the injuries followed a decision to fire the S&C coach and promote from within and leave a staff position unfilled.

I don't think many cared until the SC and Vandy debacles. He could control the narrative up until then. Once that happens and you re scrambling for public traction every time you say anything it makes news.

We aren't Vanderbilt. We DO NOT have to settle for mediocrity. I believe we have an elite tradition for football in Knoxville, and when we are a Jalen Hurd fumble recovery and a Hail Mary away from 6-6 after entering the season as favorites to win the east, that is a disappointing and mediocre year. We've seen Butch get outcoached multiple times up to this point. How many more will it take for the excuses to stop?

Elite? We were well on the way in the 90's but that was more of an exception than a rule. We will never be Alabubba because we don't cheat or at least not as good as they do. Keep crying but the facts are simple. No ELITE coach wants this job because the expectations are unrealistic. Go ahead and blast Jones! The expectations are EXACTLY why we will never get an ELITE coach.

Was this a thing after practice today or something? Where is the interview?

Translation: shut up you idiots. 8-4 is all you are getting. Losing to a bad USC team and a 5-7 Vandy ( that is currently being dismantled by NCS) is as good as you are going to get. So sit down, shut up and clap when the coach that wanted your sorry butts tells you to clap.

I believe Butch. I believe some coaches called him and asked him how did he take that much talent and finish the season unranked?

Your "choice of meat" point makes it appear as though the criticism of CBJ is completely unwarranted. Not only does he not won games he should win, he says stupud stuff everyone knows is not true and then doubles down on the stupidity.

He invites the criticism on himself.

lol,

you are correct, he deserves criticism.

but the kind of criticism you love giving is way beyond strange.

Wait now. Bowl games are meaningless right? Isn't that what y'all have been saying? Maybe Vandy players just agree with y'alls brilliance.
