Name any other coach who has ever said "you've never heard me say winning our division was our goal."

His "champions of life" comment was in response to a question about senior day and what the seniors meant to him. Kind of funny that Matt Rhule said essentially the very same thing in his introductory PC at Baylor, and it got very little press. Whatever. Anyone who thinks that Butch doesn't want to win is fooling themselves.

Again, Matt rhule hadn't just said "I've never said winning our division was a goal of this team." If he'd never said that, and we hadn't JUST laid an egg in an embarrassing loss, the Champions of life comment would have gotten a day of chuckles and been done.

Matt rhule and Greg Pop and everyone else who's said those things weren't saying them in a way that made it seem that they were excusing their pitiful coaching performances. Timing matters, and you guys would still be making memes about it if any rival coach had said that right after choking away the division and saying winning the division wasn't ever the goal anyway.

Rhule's quote was referring to his Temple players. "They won a championship on Saturday...but they were champions before that. They're champions for life, and I look forward to watching them as I know they will be watching us." I know context matters for us but not for a majority of people who made fun of it. He quoted the EXACT same thing. No one knew the context about us on social media because no one cared. Things on social media spread quickly without people wanting to know about context. Fans from other schools didn't know about a quote about winning the East; they just saw the quote "champions of life" and made fun of it. Only our fans care about the quote about the East. Rhule apparently didn't know or care because he said the exact same thing. That is part of the irony about all of this. The very quote that Butch was made fun of was quoted less than 2 weeks later and nothing said.

I don't know why people care anyway because I have ignored what he says for 3 years.

:good!:

I agree, let's go with what he gets done. Quite frankly his 'isms' drive me crazy anyway.

Butch has said ad nauseum since he's been here that winning the SEC is what UT mission is. I added the quote a long time ago and the question from UTSports.com was asking about the UF/LSU game and that the media never heard him talk about that game.

Butch screwed the pooch in many different ways this year. There is plenty of legit ammunition. I don't understand why you have to pick one that didn't really happen.

Winning the division wasn't the goal. The goal was to win the SEC championship and play in the playoffs. If the would have achieved their goals winning the division would have been a step in their goals. Not what they set out to do.

I didn't think I could learn much more after the education in Sport's media around the Haney incident. But by signing day it appears I will have taken the full course on "coach-speak" as well. Ho, ho, ho. Who needs a defense with Ty & Cam gobbling up the yards and the clock!

I case you missed it, Jeff Jacoby, co host of the Doc, Jeff, and Heather show, on the sports animal in Knoxville, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this morning. I'm 100% sure his family could use your prayers.

Terrible news and prayers for his family. Tough to lose a love one and especially on a day that celebrates the birth of Jesus who is the Way the Truth and the Life.

Denver getting clowned

I'd be surprised if they ever get to another Super Bowl while Kubiak is the HC. He was a .500 head coach before last year and he'll be a .500 head coach going forward. He was incredibly fortunate to inherit the team he did last year.

They lost Peyton and Jackson, 2 Vols, and go from super bowl to missing the playoffs. Coincidence? I think not!

Those are big losses for sure, but like I said, I'd be willing to bet they don't get to another Super Bowl with Kubiak at the helm. He was a career .500 coach at Houston, and if you take away last year, I bet he ends up a .500 career coach at Denver. Last year's championship had more to do with Wade Philips than Kubiak. I feel like they won in spite of him in some ways.

True. His mgt of the offense was terrible. Didn't put Peyton in the best position to succeed. Nearly costed them the Super Bowl by doing that.
