I saw a new post in the Jacob Phillips thread. I forgot all about that kid. He's the 37th ranked player in the nation and could end up being a 5 star.

It just highlights how disappointing this recruiting season has been so far. Things could change before signing day but that's the current situation.

I looked at the top Rivals recruits from the state of Tennessee. The top 3 players (two 5 stars and a VERY high 4 star) are headed out of state to other schools. The best player in the state is from my hometown --- I can see his high school from my 5th floor office window. And he chose Clemson. It's a bitter pill to swallow.

Some of you old guys will remember how we looked forward to 2017 as "our" year --- the year we would finally get a #1 recruiting class because of the talent in Tennessee. The talent is there but the coaches couldn't close the deal.

As far as instate recruiting goes, the only FAIL was Higgins. We didn't want Richardson and got the better back in Chandler. Stevens was NEVER coming to Knoxville...whoever was coaching. I'd add Phillips, but how can you "fail" to land a kid you didn't recruit? Maybe fail their evaluation on that but not the recruiting. What trumps all this is landing Trey Smith. I wasn't very confident before, during or after the season, but he's the epic haul in this state. Ironically your Rivals happens to slight him in the ratings. If he had gone elsewhere I would have agreed with your assessment...but this was a win.

Beating a dead horse. Think Rivals is the only one that has Philips that high. We got 3 of the top 5 per 247.

Losing Higgins hurt. Stevens was never going to be a Vol, and that was well known for a long time. In-state recruiting wasn't our issue this year, IMO.

Tee is a different story, but I said the following a few months ago. Even though the mid state area will produce good prospects, we won't be able to automatically get them because they are instate. People are moving to that area but not from there. Therefore, kids or parents have other allegiances. It's very similar to the Atlanta metro area in the 90's and early 2000's. That area blew up in population with people moving from out of state. There are a lot of Vols fans there. You are just now seeing a generation of kids that were actually born and raised in Atlanta.

IMO, early on, our staff believed Phillips was too big for LB. When they reevaluated, it was too late. In the end, I like Ignont and Reid is going to be an EE.

Whats funny is someone will come from the FF and read where people have said "if Volatil said he's a vol then he's coming" and "Volatil said Vol lock" and then if he picks the Vols will constantly ask Volatil for inside info for the rest of their time on Volnation.......OR if he picks FSU will absolutely roast Volatil as being a fake insider Bama troll and never be convinced otherwise.

I've already gone over there and started a thread.

How many non-conference games do they have left? That will be the length of the suspension :)

My point too...his first two incidents of this tripping crap occurred at the beginning of the calendar year. :hmm: Conference opponents...Coach K didn't even know what the fuss was about.

Did you weigh in on my creepiness level when let it be known that I patted smith on the shoulder the other night and said Go vols?

It's title is Cam Acres.

That horse isn't dead around here. I live and work in Oak Ridge. The conversations involving Tee Higgins occur often. How many times does our small town have a top 10 player in the nation? Community pride and UT loyalty is strong. There's a lot of bitterness to go around. I see and hear about it nearly every day.

So the horse may be dead for you but he's very much alive in this community.

Was it a UT issue or did Clemson just win?

No inside info, but I'm gonna guess it was mostly an issue of Clemson coaching staff's recent track record for putting kids in the NFL vs. UT's recent track record for putting kids in the NFL. Same goes for UGA getting Reed and most likely Gibbs.

How long would it take a coordinated effort by the RF to convince everyone Volatil is a legit insider? However long it takes, I vote we commit to it.

No idea. And from what I hear, his family are UT fans.

The rumors are varied and wildly inconsistent. I've heard he wants to get away from his family. I've also heard his family wants him to get away from his "posse". Some people around here think he's following other players. Others think it's strictly a business decision --- Clemson has more high profile receivers in the NFL right now.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle of all that.
