'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

Well you can't be one way during the season and then make a 180 turnaround when it's apparent the fanbase's lack of support for the coach is hurting recruiting. That needs to be apparent all the time. Fair weather fans are just another distraction that coaching staffs have to overcome. And when they can spew their opinion at the speed of sound over social media, it's just that more difficult.

Why can't we just support the team? We've proven as a fanbase that we suck at choosing the starting quarterback from Brandon Stewart, to A.J. Suggs to Riley Ferguson. We also have a poor track record at coaching evaluations over the last several years. Why not stick with what we know?

I'm sure you won't find one poster that doesent support the team and The program.

If the buzz around certain guys turn into actual hires it will go a long way with most fans. If it doesn't happen Butch is essentially Les Miles and is fired after Georgia.

How did he not get enough credit for winning 8? Injuries didn't start catching up until the SC game I think. Tennessee still should have won that game and Vandy too.

With all the new pieces coming in a big seaon just isn't in the cards, IMO.

Understanding may be a better word than credit. But I think there are plenty of pieces to win the east

I suppose you could call it support. Just given our level of competency on a historical basis would give me pause to try to influence those that are really in the know.

Buying a ticket to a seat at a game doesn't increase knowledge that I've been able to tell. Maybe it's a learned behavior. Fans have been complaining in the stands about play calling since my first game in 1980. At least in the old days when the same old guys called in to talk radio to complain about not throwing to the tight end enough, there was a limit to how much the rest of the fanbase had to endure over the airwaves. Is complaining part of the enjoyment?

What are you talking about? We lost Kirkland in the VT game. We lost Sutton, JRM, and Quarte Sapp in the Ohio game. We lost DOB in the TAMU game. We were down 3 of our top 4 defenders by the time we hit SEC play. I still think we should have beaten SCAR and Vandy but considering we beat Florida, Georgia, and took TAMU to double OT with 7 freakin turnovers I'd say we did alright. We should have done better but we just ran out of juice.

From a well respected poster on VQ… (I posted something similar that he said couple weeks ago as well)

"i know there is consistent chatter about FSU, and you still hear a lil about ole miss, but if I had to guess it's smoke being sprayed by his camp.

Obviously I'm not an insider, but I can tell you this much about the kid. He is much more a good guy than a bad guy and there will be much happiness in Knoxville soon enough.

You'll have to strap on your big boy panties tho because the closer it gets, the more you will hear but despite what you hear, remember this. He's a Vol today, and he will be a Vol when all the smoke clears."

Meaning the depth you have or lack there of in this case shows up. They held together for a while but guys wore down.

So I'm not allowed to be upset after an embarrassing loss and then over time reflect upon the season and realize that while I wasn't happy with the results I still support butch?

I also take offense if you're referring to me as a fair weather fan. I grew up and supported the vols during the final two fulmer years, through the kiffin debacle, and then through the Derek Dooley years so I'm about as far from a fair weather fan as possible

How well respected? Is this JAV, and he's changed his stance on Akers?

I soured on butch immediately after the vandy game but I've come back around to supporting him since the initial frustration has worn off.

You do realize it's been proven that to even have a chance at competing for national titles you have to average top 10 classes? And while, yes that's what we have averaged, we are currently trending away from that. As far as teams that are recruiting at an elite level: bama, FSU, OSU, Georgia, So Cal, and Michigan are the ones that come to the forefront. But I know you're just going to miss my point and try to argue that our average isn't far off from them even though my point is that we're trending in the wrong direction

No, I don't miss your point. Trends are what make averages what they are. I agree, we need to get back into the top 10 to continue an overall average that ranks among the nation's best.

If I did argue that we are right there with those teams, which we are, it wouldn't be an attempted argument, it would be a legitimate one.

Interesting. I hope he's right.

That's because they don't like Butch or they don't believe he'll make the changes needed to take the next step.

Both are justifiable at this point, IMO

I don't believe in the coach so rather than hoping he proves me wrong I hope we lose so my opinions are validated. Great logic

I don't know, I don't complain too much. Fans of just about every damn program in the country ***** and complain about stuff all the time. The reason Butch's job security may be looked at as in some sort of doubt outside of our fan base is a little more due to his performance than what a bunch of kids babble about on forums or social media.

Hope he is right but too many that we know aren't possible trolls say otherwise

I believe Butch is a middle of the road coach. Given the facts of his resume. He's never going to be the 10 win guy at Tennessee. Do I want Tennessee to lose, no. Do I think Butch is good stability for Tennessee, yes. He'll win some next year but don't kid yourself with a championship birth.

I think he will be a lot like Fulmer if the breaks go his way he will make a run at a championship but expect 8-10 win seasons otherwise.

Do I really need to break it down? The only elite class we have actually signed is the 2015 class. 2013 had some stats but the attrition was bad. 2014 was highly ranked solely because we signed a lot of players. There were of course some fantastic players that came out of it but in hindsight that class wasn't all that great.
