With the CBs rolling in the last couple days, someone knows.
I think that's just assuming. OM, FSU and even LSU feels somewhat confident. No one is giving UT much of a chance except VQ mods. Although I have seen UT as a darkhorse lately from other sites.
Hubbs and Fort were saying UT or OSU with LSU as a long shot. Fort was adamant that FSU and OM were out, just a couple weeks ago. Then it changed to FSU leads with UT just behind and LSU still in there. Hopefully Akers relationship with CRG wins out, that's our only hope.
opcorn: would love to hear your reasoning going by the video. If the same layout (and would guess they are, figure he went ahead and did the video yesterday), Tn/Ga aren't within arms reach to pick up, recruits never pick the middle hat(s) so that leaves FSU/LSU lol.
I will say Ole Miss is VERY confident, still think LSU/FSU with FSU trending.
In the mix:
Florida State - Speaking to sources close to the program, the confidence that we reported on after Jimbo Fishers final in-home with Akers last Sunday is still lingering. However, I dont believe the staff will feel totally confident until Akers is actually enrolled. FSU has done a great job laying out the opportunity for playing time presented by Dalvin Cook leaving, the chance to compete for a National Championship and still play relatively close to home. My Crystal Ball pick for Akers is on FSU and nothing I've heard in the last 24-hours would convince me to change it at this point.
Ole Miss - The Rebels cannot be counted out. Hugh Freeze has also done a great job of presenting Akers with the ability to be a star in his home-state, to play in the SEC and be a franchise type player for the Ole MIss program. I believe Ole Miss is the biggest threat to FSU for Akers. Expect the rumors to continue to go back and forth between FSU and Ole Miss until Akers announces his decision on the 27th.
LSU - Coach Ed Orgeron isnt a stranger to big recruiting battles in the state of Mississippi. Hes got LSU within striking distance one week from Akers decision. LSU has been the one constant team mentioned when discussing Akers, but it seems theyve fallen off a bit over the past 2 or three weeks. Because of coach Os relationship with Akers, the Tigers are still have a viable chance to land the five-star back.
On the outside:
Ohio State - When Urban Meyer doesnt do a final in-home visit with a recruit, you know theyve thrown in the towel on a recruitment. Meyer is one of the best closers in the game and the fact that the Buckeyes didnt even shoot their final shot is a sign that theyre not in it.
Tennessee - The Vols were my dark horse team to keep an eye on. But their bad season and coaching uncertainty made them fall off as of late.
Georgia - The Dawgs are known for their long line of NFL caliber running backs that come out of that program every year. They made a late run at Akers, including an in-home visit with Kirby Smart, but nobody feels UGA has a real shot here.
That's the thing that kills me. Yes, Tennessee had a bad season but those other teams that's in the mix didn't have great seasons either yet they continue to get high quality recruits. Winning isn't always important to some kids.
Those other schools don't have the media pressing a narrative about them like UT does.
I forgot that LSU and Ole Miss seasons were so much better.
Cam Akers, the five-star running back whos got it down, in my opinion, to Tennessee and Florida State at this point. He will make a decision right after Christmas as well, probably the 27th or so. Maybe the 28th is when hes going to do it. Hes a mid-term enrollee that Robert Gilespie has invested a lot of his life in the last couple years, trying to recruit him. Again, I think thats going to be a Tennessee/Florida State battle. Florida State obviously is using concerns about Butch Jones on the hot seat against Tennessee and noting that Jimbo Fisher has a new contract with a $45 million buyout. Fisher doesnt seem to be poised to go anywhere anytime soon out of Tallahassee, so theyre certainly marketing stability and being the next Dalvin Cook to Cam Akers, and thats what Tennessee is trying to combat right now.
They also have coaches that the fanbase supports. Recruiting is not going to be elite again until butch either starts winning or is fired and we get a new coach. No one wants to play for a lame duck
