The Fire First, Think Second Mentality of many on this board is quite comical. People that have as much time as some do to spend on internet chat boards shouting to the moon what should happen are exactly who should be running the UTAD I guess.

It really doesn't matter despite you not wanting that to be the answer. Hart isn't firing and/or hiring new head coaches, we're dealing with assistants. Their contracts aren't nearly as complicated as some of y'all are making them out to be. Even potential coordinators that might make 7 figures.

Please. What I "want" is irrelevant. This is how businesses operate. The AD, regardless of what is said, is still a business to a large degree.

Let's pretend for a minute that Helfrich agrees to be our OC. Helfrich wants a two year deal with some sort of buyout because he's concerned about the future, and Hart agrees. Butch rolls out next year and goes 9-3 with another dumb loss that cost us something of significance and the new AD decides he has plateaued, and it's time to make a change. You're now paying Butch's buyout along with the buyout of an expensive, high profile OC. If he does for more than one assistant, toss them in as well.

Don't give me the "boosters can afford it" line either. The fact that's it true doesn't mean it's not money mismanagement that could negatively impact the program going forward.

If the AD hire is rushed, it would only be because Butch is in a lot more trouble than we realize

Really whatever a coordinator wants is small potatoes

True.

But if they make the announcement next week it doesn't mean it was rushed or that he's in immediate trouble (this year) either.

My guess, and just a guess, is that Davenport wants to hire her own AD. And she doesn't start as an employee until 2/15.

She will not want a mess like Baylor and I expect her to be very involved in any area where sexual abuse/harassment might be a concern (of course that can include the entire university). And I would want her to set a clear agenda and environment to make sure we stay ahead of the curve, rather than cleaning up messes and responding to lawsuits.

Think about those times you have worked for a manager that hired you, as compared to working for someone that you were assigned to. It is a completely different dynamic.

Looking around makes a lot of sense. While I know many of you are hellbend on David Blackburn, the truth is, while it less than 100 miles probably, Tennessee is a HUGE step from Chattanooga. Chattanooga athletic dept isn't on par to a good mid major athletic dept much less SEC.

Why not look around? There are people out there who have done a lot more than David Blackburn and maybe they would love to have a shot at the Tennessee job. Just being a graduate of the school shouldn't be the primary criteria....

That said, Hart and Jones should be able to hire the S&C coach ASAP.

Butch aint getting fired at 9-3, I don't care who the AD is. He aint getting fired at 6-6.

Boys they just finished paying off DD. Do you really think they want another 3-4 yr buyout again? I know many of you want him gone but it aint happening till the buyout is 2 yrs or less.

Agreed. Just putting pieces together from random info, it seems that this transition has been in works for a long time.

Your opinion is neither any more accurate nor any more needed than theirs.

If you don't think 6-6 gets Butch fired, you might want to bow out of this discussion. 9-3 puts the new AD in a tough spot, 8-4 is the 50/50 line next year.

I find that rumor comical. We've got an AD, but somehow people believe that once Dave Hart announced his retirement, he was locked away in solitary confinement unable to do his job.

Hart no longer has the power to sign off on contracts on his own. That went away when his "retirement" was announced. He can make recommendations, but he no longer has the power that he did.

Some very close to the process think it could still be done VERY soon. Others are conforming what Jimmy is reporting.

It's uncertain, but it does appear that something in the process has changed.

Remember, the new Chancellor isn't making this decision on her own. There are other parties involved.

That may be true, but I have a hard time believing that we can't go through whatever channels exist and do the normal off season business of replacing assistant coaches.

I refuse to believe that his recommendation isn't essentially taken for gold.
