Would Clemson deserve it at 11-2 without being a conference champ? Virginia Tech would be 10-3 as a conference champ. Even without a mandatory conference champ rule, these games matter, and it gets much more interesting.

That game already mattered.

8 teams will likely happen. Just don't believe it is necessary.

At least UT is excelling at something. They are continuing to excel at lowering the expectations of anybody that truly gives a crap about them. My money has found much more productive uses, but they could care less about that as well.

Lead story in ESPN.com about what has been learned during the NFL season so far. Applicable crossover to college would be (summarizing): First, build the best teams by first emphasizing the lines, especially O-lines. Used Raiders, Cowboys, Titans, Lions, etc. as examples of doing it right. Next, QB's matter and don't be afraid to bench one as needed. Next, patience is a virtue sometimes with coaches and AD's (GM's in NFL - they used McKenzie as an example). They also used Gus Bradley with the Jags as a counterpoint when patience was not a virtue. Final point, variances matter. Major stats changes period to period can make or break a season. But also head coach decisions on 4th downs, aggressive versus traditional in game strategy, etc. can cause variances of performance in the stat that matters most - wins and losses.

I agree. Insert your own interpretation of how that applies to our Vols.

Anyone notice how the UTC vacancy got filled?

Everyone throwing random names out like Shoop and others but none of that was realistic.

Blackburn was prepared for this and had names at the ready (like good AD should do) and made a hire fairly quickly.

What a relief it would be if we had someone in charge of hiring coaches that was prepared for it. How many hires have we fked up by doing search firms and all that jazz? Or the hire eventually worked out but we looked like we had a pie in the face for ab 5 weeks with leaked info on different coaches?

Blackburn has experience as the guy in charge and experience at the university of Tennessee. Seems like a no brainer.. but of course only the VOLS add drama to this.

Couple quick questions, could anew AD be selected and start work without taking a full time position till February, kinda like the Chancellor, and if something isn't done till Feb. Do we really want Hart handling these contracts if staff changes are made? Could those contracts have any effect on an AD accepting the job?

I would like to see 8 teams as long as the P5 all have championship games and the winners get automatic berths.

And no more than 8

I've always said that burning a top draft pick on a QB is stupid unless you have the OL in front of him already built. No offense to Dak and Zeke, but you put them behind the Rams OL and they look the same as Goff and Gurley do now, and vice versa. Derek Carr is another example, put him behind the Bucs or Jags OL and he looks just like Bortles and Winston.

QBs are overrated in general. I'd argue more often than not the success of an offense is much more dependent on the OL than the QB.

The winners shouldn't get auto bids IMO. Some team winning the lesser division at 8-4/9-3 and then pulling off an upset shouldn't get a berth just because.

Does those respective department have their own individual CEO's, CFO's and whatnot ?

Not necessarily departments, but different lines of business can have their own officers within the same company. I've worked for a couple of large corporations set up like that.

I thought they hired their guy yesterday

Still im going to wait and see how it plays out.

You are correct. Last report I saw was "focused on" and now it say "officially".

We don't know everything involved. I'm glad I don't know. I'll wait before freaking out.

Then why even have conference championship games or even conferences for that matter?

If a team wins their conference, IMO, they should have an automatic bid (P5 conference) if their conference is weak and they won, well that will get sorted out in the playoffs. Maybe the conferences should select better teams for their conferences then. It follows the same logic as the NFL. Should the winners of the NFC south be left out because their division sucks?

Yeah, but the winners wouldn't be left out in favor of a team with a worse record. I get what you are trying to say, but apples to oranges there.

NFL and CFB are different animals.

Conference championships would still matter. Always have.

I'm also against making kids play even more games. Practically playing an NFL schedule load already to win the NC.

If the delay is true, it sounds more like standard old Tennessee politics to me.

Exactly, been going on for years. Apparently some people try to shift the blame from the same group of individuals that have messed up for years now, to make their little political statement in a sports forum.
