Sooooo when will we compete for a Natty? This isn't Georgia, 9-10 wins shouldn't be the goal. IMO
What I said is true. Stamping your little feet, and pitching a hissy fit, firing coaches every three-four years that do not meet our stupid standards, is going to bring success. The goal should be to put good solid teams that compete every week, and win all the games they are supposed to, and some they are not, and compete for championships. Butch failed this year. He did not last year. We will find out what he is really made of this coming year. We will not win the East next year probably, but if Butch can get the team back to playing sound fundamental football, we will be in every game. If not we will slide back into the basement.
Doug Matthews had an interesting comment this morning on the Zone. Said CBJ would have the MCB practices more focused on next year and he should in DM's opinion. While it would be good to win the game, he said CBJ knows the team has to be more successful. Said the practices would be more physical.
Mentioned that CBJ would not name a stating QB after spring practice because it would be likely the non-starter would transfer during the summer. Also mentioned that QD and JG would require two different schemes since QD is not the run threat that Josh Dobbs or JG is.
As an aside, why does someone from the deep dark hills of Eastern Kentucky have two Tampa Bay teams as their favorite? Bay area is my home.

I'm from east Tennessee. Three branches of my family are some of the first white settlers in the Tennessee and Sequatchie river valleys. The fourth branch is from NW Georgia a few miles from Chattanooga, and are also an old settler family. I lived in Pinellas county for close to ten years. It is my second home. I love the Tampa Bay area, which IMO is the best place to live in Florida, and would still be there if I hadn't moved here.
What part of Pinellas as I grew up in St Pete (Northeast High)? 33% of the St. Pete's residents were over 65 years of age when I lived there (many many moons ago).
edit: initially said county but meant St. Pete
I disagree with waiting to name a starter. If JG is named the starter Dormady is gone. But I don't think JG leaves if Dormady wins the job. He's still only a redshirt freshman and has plenty of time. I think it would be much better for the team chemistry if Butch names the starter as soon as he knows for sure who it is. Go into fall camp with a leader already preparing to run the offense. IF Dormady leaves, we still more than likely have Jones, and then we have McBride behind him now. And if Dormady transfers over the summer, maybe we find a late addition somewhere to add more depth. Let's face it, Butch has to win next year. He can't be thinking about keeping Dormady here for the future or anything like that. He's coaching for his job in 2017. Name a starter and deal with the consequences imo.
It's not just about the future. Name JG the starter, QD transfers, JG gets inured, season tanks, Jones is out. It is best for the immediate and future of the program to hold off IMO. Unless it's so obvious that QD sees the writing and transfers anyway, which I don't see.

Yup. As much as I would like to know who the starter is going into the fall and I am sure the team would as well, it's just a better idea to hold off until the end of fall camp or during fall camp. At the same time that doesn't stop either one of them from transferring after they found out they didn't get the job at the start of the season, it's just a lot less likely.
