Mykelle McDaniel suspended -
Tennessee encountered a potential distraction, and fourth-year head coach Butch Jones reacted in swift fashion.
The Vols and freshman defensive lineman Mykelle McDaniel, among the final two players the Vols added to their 2016 signing class, has been indefinitely suspended from the program, and his future at UT was indicated to be uncertain, at best, through numerous sources on campus, in his native Georgia and around the South.
UT, through spokesman Ryan Robinson, issued the following statement to 247Sports:
"Mykelle is being disciplined and will not be practicing with the team leading up to the bowl game," Robinson said. "He is expected to rejoin the football program for the start of the spring semester."
It was indicated to 247Sports that McDaniel could pursue junior college options in his home state, as well as other potential landing spots in the region.
McDaniel had practiced throughout this week with Tennessee, which resumed preparations for the Dec. 30 Music City Bowl against Nebraska on Monday. McDaniel had been a promising late addition for the Vols, whose coaches had touted his upside when he arrived on Rocky Top from powerhouse Grayson in the metro-Atlanta area.
