I agree. You can compete at a high level without beating Saban. I do think that we should expect to play Bama tougher than we have to this point. None of our four games have been close.

Last season. Had the lead with 5 minutes left. Lost 19-14. Bama players were quoted as saying we were the most physical team they played.

So if Jones doesn't beat Alabama this year coming up in his 5th year when should the doubters expect him to beat Alabama? And don't come with the unrealistic demands BS either. This is year 5 coming up. His first full highly rated class are all seniors. So when should we expect to compete at a high level and take the next step?

After he's fired and we can start the timer on the poor new sap. :boredom:

You're right. Not sure what I was thinking. I will officially begin my back-pedal from my previous statement.

Ole Miss hired their OC, Phil Long from Sam Houston St. Looks like Auburn DB coach McGriff will be the new DC.

Most people don't tie UT's success to beating Saban; most set the bar at competing for championships-- which is exactly where this coaching staffing set it. That starts with winning the SECE and playing in the SECCG. UT could have done that last year and failed... absolutely should have done that this year and failed... and will be expected to do that next year. Hard to imagine any backing down from that expectation in Year 5.

Read someone on here propose Phil Long for us. Not a bad hire.

There was an interesting theory with OM hiring him. They had zeroed in on him and may have leaked info before the Sam Houston State playoff game. Then his offense laid a dud in the playoff game. They didn't want it announced right after that because fans would have been critical. They kept it open and "interviewed" other candidates to show the appearance that they hadn't hired him.

Yep smart of them to stick to their guns though unlike several including ourselves like Dooley not hiring Steele

Unrealistic demands? How long did it take Fulmer to beat Spurrier? Florida was nowhere near the Juggernaut that Bama is now under Saban...No team ever has been. Ole Miss and Auburn for a couple of years each, are the only teams to in the Saban era. His is a Sherman like March to the sea. He has burnt the SEC..the overall best conference in CFB, to the ground. That is the epitome of unrealistic demand at this point.

I like Swain and I really like Ainge. I have not heard of 3 and out. Who is that?

Nate Hodges, Houston Kress and, most days, Jon Reed. It's a pretty entertaining show. They aren't really into generating or perpetuating rumors (despite Kress' twitter handle, @volrumormill). And Houston can be pretty whiny when things aren't going well.

Now this is how you do realistic demand...I know that is going to be hard for the King of Hyperbole to understand however.

MTSU basketball team now 10-1 on the year with a road win over Belmont just now.

Crazy stat: Kermit Davis went 153-126 during his first 9 seasons at MTSU for a 54% win percentage.

Since 2011-2012, he's 133-49 with a 73% win percentage. Also has 3 regular season conference titles and one conference tournament title in that time, along with two NCAA tournament appearances and an NIT appearance.

Pretty rare to see a coach stick around the same school for that long and then somehow kick his team into a higher gear out of nowhere.

Nice post.

I agree for the most part, except Fulmer beat Spurrier the first time they faced off.

Did last year in Tuscaloosa just not exist? Was it a fever dream I experienced from breathing in the turbid air down there that Saturday?

This lists Sal Sunseri as a possible candidate for DC at UF. No way I would think that would happen, but please.

Will McElwain tap into Alabama past to find DC? Here are 5 candidates to consider

Yep..he did. But the point he remains that Spurrier boatraced him fir years after that. I forgot about that game somehow. I guess because Spurrier just dominated him for awhile after that.

I really like the direction our offense is going. We are LOADED on the OL and it's getting even better adding Smith and Mays in the next two years. Our running backs are outstanding with Kelly, Carlin, Ty, Coleman and dang if we land Akers will be incredible. Great receivers also! At QB we have 2 guys who could be really good. I personally want JG to win the job because of his athleticism. This offense is looking great. Hopefully the defense develops as well and Shoop gets things figured out for next year.
