The scariest part of this AD search is that if they were going to hire DB they could have done it MONTHS ago. I know he has been the leader in the clubhouse but the longer this drags out the scarier it becomes.

There is a lot of people who go into self preservation mode during moves like this. That Donna Thomas lady for one. According to Basilio, Rick Barnes and Butch Jones both want Gilbert as well. People start throwing their support behind a guy in hopes that he gets hired and their support will be rewarded.

I'm leaning towards the "believe it when I see it" school of thought when it comes to Blackburn being named AD. Not saying it won't happen, but I just expect the administration over on the hill to screw it up like they do everything else.

To me this line from Basilio's blog sums up exactly what is wrong with our Athletic Department in general.....

Blackburn has been masterful at Chattanooga. He's served his time. But he's a man's man. And this place likes to control people more than win at athletics. It's a shame because this community deserves better. If they run me out of here for saying so, then so be it.

The reason we don't have an AD was because it wasn't a priority. The biggest priority was to hire a Chancellor. Also, things have changed. Hart was expected to be here until spring. The relationship between the university and Hart has soured somewhat. Because of that the schedule has been moved up.

No they couldn't. Can't hire until chancellor is official. Chain of command. You don't hire a Vice President before a president etc.

Hart is getting a gitshirt, too.

I am very nervous until an announcement is made about the AD, but LWS has repeatedly said ( and I have asked him multiple times in the insiders thread) that it will be Blackburn and they are waiting due to Davenport. AtlantaVol said the same. SBV and others have said the same in this forum. Surely that many people aren't off base with this info, but given how Tennessee screws things up, there is still some worry. What are other sites saying? Are they echoing this as well? That article in the TFP was concerning but hopefully just public comments until things are official. As stupid as Tennessee tends to be on hirings, I can't believe they would intentionally pick Gilbert, hell I would rather have the Kentucky AD over him. Gilbert has never even been an AD for goodness sakes and botched what opportunities he's had here. The only reason he has support is because those people are looking out for their jobs- Butch and Barnes in particular. It is very telling to be honest. They don't want to be challenged which says a lot about Harts leadership. Even more reason to make big changes. Leadership and guidance is badly needed here.

I dream of a future where Peyton becomes a multi-billionare in 10 years and "drains the swamp" in Knoxville by ousting the fat cat boosters and taking the seat at the head of the table.

A few articles out about the Kiffin hire and why he fell all the way to FAU. When reference calls were made to Tennessee and USC people supposedly told schools that were interested that he was "unhireable." The fact that Bama didn't want him back despite having their best offense in school history hurt him too.

That last statement is virtually unfathomable

Just a low class human being with such talent

Florida's DC just left for Temple HC position. May see some decommits from UF.

Collins getting out right as all the Muschamp talent heads to the NFL.

I don't see a very long future for Horse Teeth at UF.

Can't believe we haven't capitalized on him so far, hope we do next year, because if we don't UGA may be the team to pop up in the East with how Smart is recruiting.

His class this year is at a level where even a bad coach can't screw it up that bad.

It's OK for people to like Dave Hart and what he has positively done for UT. Despite the rhetoric it is OK for people to like Mike Hamilton as he did some things that were positive for UT as well. But is not OK to gloss over the shortcomings of each that led to historical fails in the football, basketball, and LV programs. Those fails have caused a huge divide in fan support and media perception of UT, even as an overall university. The primary reasons for those failed AD hires and their subsequent issues originates with the leadership of UT at each point, the donors/boosters, and the BOT. For the younger posters - it has not always been that way.

David Blackburn represents a return to what the mission should be and was in the past for UT athletics. There have been those opposed to him that still want to chase the latest and greatest shiny object or are clueless of the tradition and past successes of UT. We all know that UT has blown it for quite awhile and that has caused a lot of heartburn and disunity. We all want the same thing, for them to get their act together and to start winning in all aspects as a university.

Personally, I don't want to be like Bama, Florida, Clemson, or any other school. I want UT to be UT. Chasing all those others will not lead to where we want to go. That part about Butch I truly love. He knows what a treasure UT could be. He just needs another trusted voice and some mentoring. So he needs an AD that also has great love, knowledge, experience, and focus about UT to achieve elite status again. You start there. That could not happen with Hart and Hamilton, nor could it happen with Gilbert or whoever else. Then if Butch still cannot/will not make the improvements to get it done, you have no regrets and can move forward with an AD that knows the game, has the agent/coaching contacts, etc.

I like that dream--- Peyton is closer than folks think to that number...

Just watched Cam's and Ty Chandler's highlights back to back. Can you imagine putting in some option plays with direct snap to Akers and pitch option to Chandler? Would be sick.

"I would be willing to try it. But if it gets a whole lot of yards, I would only use it once per game, max. I might come back to it a few games down the road. And I would line up the same exact way and run it with the same design, so that the opponent would have had time to game plan for it and expect it and have a good chance at stuffing it."

That Wiedmer article is mostly semantics. UT was never going to have the "official" talks with Blackburn until after December 15. They will follow protocol and approve the Chancellor first. The plan has been to announce the AD before Christmas, with the official transition on January 1. There are still internal politics in play, however, so the sooner the MOU is in place, the better.
