What are you hearing LAVol? I thought people backed away from Gilbert and others after the embarrassing Vandy loss. It is clear that Butch needs leadership and guidance, any AD worth his salt would have not allowed the ridiculous S&C decision during the offseason but Hart didn't care and Gilbert won't care either. Gilbert shouldn't be in the top 10 if consideration for this job. And Butch is not in a position where he should be choosing his boss.

Don't understand front office execs sometimes. They just gave him an extension about 3 weeks ago. Why?

The extension happened before the season, but only was reported 3 weeks ago.

Also, Stan Kroenke is the worst owner in sports.

First team all american on the defensive side..conference POTY on the offensive side..sheeeesh what this season should have been

It's all about turnovers. If we hadn't turned the ball over multiple times against A&M and USC, this season would have been great. Turnovers are never timely, but sometimes you can overcome them. We could not in those two games.

Did not know that about the extension. Thanks.

Still makes me wonder. Everyone knew he was going to have to play Goff at some point, and that is a recipe for growing pains. They don't have an OL like the Cowboys (I have Gurley on a fantasy team), and we all know most rookie QB's struggle. Why would they expect a winning season?

Not much. Gilbert has had a loyal faction all along, and they haven't conceded. Blackburn has a lot of support, but Gilbert has support, too, including the endorsement of our marquee coaches-- perhaps for self-serving reasons.

I don't follow Basilio, so IDK what all he's saying or how reliable he is. But until we have a deal in place, there will be uncertainty.

He got a three and a half year honeymoon. That's pretty long these days.

To be fair, he created some of the expectations.

Look, I am not trying to say I am happy with the results. But, you just don't fire a coach after two 8-4 seasons with one being decimated with injuries after the worst coach in your program's history. Other coaches will ask WTH is going on there?

You also can't fire same coach and hire another just like him. They want security, and money isn't an issue anymore. It's just not realistic. You better have an elite coach in waiting if you make the move.

I see your point, and I wouldn't be crying if he does get let go next year for another 8 win season. I also don't like how the coaching market looks next year so I would hope they at least gauge interest from some top-level guys before making the decision so we don't end up firing him and then ending up with our 5th choice(again)

Yep, that's always the question-- who would be a better option and is he open to a move? IMO, both the UT AD and Armstrong (CBJ's agent) will quietly put out feelers next season, in case a better opportunity might exist for either side. Unless CBJ wins the SECE next year, I think his shelf life is nearing expiration at UT. And if he does win it, he might be relieved to head to a different conference. IDT UT will be caught without options, either way. JMO.

As a St. Louis sports fan I also hate him for moving the Rams, so I admit I am biased against him.

The St. Louis Cardinals were my other (besides the colts) favorite NFL team growing up, until they moved them to Arizona. Never did take to the Rams being moved from LA to St. Louis, so them moving back made no difference to me. I'd like to see the Cardinals move back to St. Louis though. For nostalgia sake more than anything probably.
