Lol can you point me out where I said Butch doesn't care if he wins before resorting to childish name calling next time? That's not what I meant at all... Barnes tells it like it is, that's what I (and many others) like about him.

Childish name calling? I said you are stupid..IF..you think Butch doesn't care about winning. What these guys say in public means nothing. Why is that so hard to understand. Barnes "telling it like it is" to us, ain't ever gonna win him one single freakin game. It just makes some feel all toasty inside. I don't give a crap what Butch says to reporters or us.

Austin Price posted an update on VQ that said Larry Scott is still in the running at FAU. He also could be a coordinator candidate for Strong at USF.

Azzani could be a coordinator candidate for Cincy, and his contract expires in March, but they think he will be re-offered.

I could not let my 1,000 post be a petty jab at the Titans. Not after all these years of lurking and gradually posting from time to time.

So, here we go.

I joined this forum when Kiffin was on the verge of leaving. I jumped in head first on the Gruden train. What a ride that was.

So, here we are. Still on the climb back to the top.

My take on this forum, this fanbase, this program and the direction we are heading.

I grew up in southern IN, not a fan of football. I was all about baseball and basketball; although too short and stocky to really go far in basketball, I devoted myself to baseball.

In the fall of my junior year of high school, 1997, my new youth minister took a couple buddies and myself on a road trip to Tellico Plains. He made it a point to stop in Knoxville at Neyland. We got as close as we could to the field and were able to see the checkerboards. He was from Farragut, bled orange, and it was obvious how special it was to him just to be near Neyland Stadium. At that moment, I became a diehard fan.

Three years later, a student at Carson Newman, I attended my first game. It was the home opener vs Southern Miss. I had the good fortune of meeting a nice young lady whose family had season tickets and she invited me to the game. What an experience. Little did I know, life would never be the same.

I have attended games off and on, over the last 15 years. Life has bounced me around from Indiana, Louisiana and now East Tennessee, for which, I am grateful.

Although I am not a Tennessee native, I feel just as much loyalty to this state as Indiana, where I was born and raised. It is a wonderful state, with an amazing history and has been proven so as recently with the Gatlinburg fires, people love this state and are, to their core, proud and genuinely amazing. I feel honored and privileged to live in this great state. It is a very special place.

I know Team 120 didn't meet the expectations many of us had. But at the end of the day, Butch has this program in a place where we are fortunate enough to even have those kinds of expecations after a decade of mediocrity. I was a fan during the "spoiled age" of 1995-2005. I have friends who became fans in that same era and they do not understand, nor accept, 8-4 seasons.

I think we need to be somewhat patient with CBJ. I honestly believe if we had been as healthy is 2016 as we were in 2015, we would have finished the season 10-2, at a minimum. There are issues, no doubt. But we really need to recognize and put aside the mentality of win now, be like Saban/Meyer/Harbaugh. Results like that are merely a pipe dream without hiring one of those three. We have a coach who has given his life to the rebuilding of this program and he deserves our respect. He deserves at the minimum, 6 years.

I am honored to be a part of this forum, with so many great people. This is an amazing place. Let's keep fighting the good fight here in the RF and continue to show the CFB world what the greatest fans in the country look like. GBO.

gave you a like for a good post, but I think year 5 make or break for Jones. He'd probably be gone now if we had a new AD in place so I guess the people who want to give him at least two more years should be thankful for Hart's long goodbye.

No AD would have fired Butch after this season, and there would have to be a disaster next season like 4-8 or 5-7 to get fired after next year. That is a ignorant statement.

I respectfully disagree. I think squandering talent and mismanaging the locker room could have been grounds for some ADs (with the right replacement in mind) to make a change after this season.

I agree with UEM. No way that he is fired. You have to consider the injuries as well. Money is not an issue anymore for big time coaches. They want to go to a program where you have security and can win. If Butch is fired after this year, the message to other possible candidates is not good. They won't touch it if you get fired after 8-4 with a team decimated with injuries. The same group saying that a permanent AD would consider firing him seems to be the ones saying we should pay for an elite coach. LSU kept Orgeron and Oregon hired Taggart. No way and it's the "fanatical" coming out in those folks. Simply not realistic.

If we sniff 11 wins while replacing the starting QB, both RBs, and while having to replace Barnett, Butch should be Coach of the year.

orr we are only replacing one rb and kelly already proved to upgrade hurds part in thr rotation, and maybe jg is an upgrade and has a red shirt freshman year like some other greats we've witnessed, aaand yes losing barnett, ouch, but the rest of the d is healthy.

Here's how that would go:

Tennessee goes 11-1, takes undefeated Alabama to 3OT.

Awards are announced: Nick Saban selected Coach of the Year because Jalen Hurts had case of the sniffles against Fresno State and a backup WR missed the Mercer game.

SECCG appearance

Should have happened this year and I think it should be the minimum requirement for Butch to be retained after next season.

Wow. I'm all the way out on Butch and even I don't expect him to win the East next season in order to keep his job.

I hope no one reading my statement thinks (not that it really matters) that I want butch out or anything. I just meant that I could imagine a way an AD could hold Butch accountable for the mess this season turned into. IF speculation/rumors are true that players were involved in Lawson's dismissal, and if Butch was "mismanaging" players like Hurd, I could see a scenario where an AD might oust him.

But I agree, it would be very unlikely. And I wouldn't personally vote for that. I have stated before, I want Butch to win, and I want him to take accountability when he loses. And not just on Mondays after someone told him he's getting killed for the things he said in the post-game presser.

If he can't do it 5 years in a down SEC east, will he ever do it?

No, I don't think so. That's why I was hoping he'd leave on his own this year.

I think 8-4 and he retains his job next year. I HOPE anything less than Atlanta gets him fired but I don't see it.
