'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

I just want to say I have enjoyed this very respectful convo on this subject with Invol and Mr Voltan. This is how a message board among true Vol fans should work.

DB and LB regressed this year no doubt. But I was talking about over the last four years. I think the oline has been a constant weakness since Butch arrived.

Well of course those two groups regressed this year!? Losing Cam, Reeves-Maybin and Kirkland can do that to a defense. Losing Obrien, Tuttle and McKenzie didn't help our defensive front either.

13. Stalking. Please don't stalk other posters by repeatedly responding to his/her posts for the sole purpose of ridiculing, mocking, insulting, or flaming. For those with the urge to stalk others, the ignore user feature may be helpful. Also, please refrain from creating threads to "call out" other posters.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

I'm sure that injuries and poor s&c decisions have contributed, but it is sure easy to suggest and recruit against a perceived lack of development for our OL and corners (TBH, I think it has already cost us with Wray, Reed, and Gibbs). Perception is reality. That's why I think position changes are crucial for us going forward, both on the field and in recruiting.

I'm saying I don't think the competition in MS is very good. Please learn to read.

On what do you base this opinion? Upper level schools like South Panola, Meridian, Petal and Olive Branch have played top level nationally recognized teams like Hoover, Apopka and Cocoa FL. Those are the class of teams Clinton plays against, so I don't agree with your statement about MS competition.

Didn't see the AL/MS game, but I wouldn't place much emphasis on a recruits abilities from an all star game. Way too many variables in those games that can skew a teams/players performance.

I agree BUT I can also see progress as we get more depth and development. The year of no OL from 2012 and having to play freshmen instead of a RS year and being in the weigh room for an entire year has hurt big time. Looks like we are getting there but worried now for DL and not taking any young ones last cycle catching up to us even without injuries. Last year, Bama said it was one of the toughest they had faced. IMO, the biggest problem was the S&C failure and it was a failed decision and they paid a heavy price because of it this year. They get that corrected with the depth we are bringing in with the last class and what looks like will be another good one this year, we will finally be there. Hopefully, I am right. We need me to be right. :hi:

I think if Butch does the right thing with the staff, the oline will improve. As to the S&C, I think that's been over blown. The S&C coach left late spring. I don't think it had that major of an impact. It was said Butch wanted lighter, more nimble lineman and the former S&C coach disagreed which was a contributor to the rift. If Butch got what he wanted, that philosophy was on him IMO.

Thanks! You're making my point for me! Now go take your aggression out on Jacket. I'm headed to my safe place.

OL isn't strong from MS this year. Sip schools regularly play Bama teams and some Tennessee teams like Memphis University. Just look at the previous years recruit rankings. Alot of D1 talent normally comes out of MS.

Wasn't it mentioned by analysts after the FL game that TN was the far better conditioned team? So if true the conditioning part of S&C was not a problem.

I think the whole entire S & C fiasco is on him and only him. It was his decision and he is on top. I think he learned from it.
