This entire thread is non-sense and wishful thinking, nothing more. UT will not make a move until a new AD is hired and if history tells us anything then a new AD will not be hired for several months. They are not going to fire a coach in May. If CBJ were to win 8-9 games again next year, then he isn't going to be fired in 2017 either.
You have to understand something. To some people, Tennessee is a small little school that has no money. Some fans actually believe that Tennessee couldnt pay a huge buyout and pay a top notch coach 6-7 million a year. They are as wrong as mayo on a corn dog, but thats what they believe.
We (the university of Tennessee) will not pay that kind of money for a coach. We are just not going to do it. Everyone needs to understand that. There is no home run hire out there at the pay scale we are willing to pay. So CBJ doesn't get fired until he proves that anyone else would be better.
To clarify......this is not what I "want" to happen. This is the reality IMO.
The BIG problem is still $$$$ and LOTS of it.
Even after next season we still face a HUGE $$$ buyout.
Then the ONLY way we'll hire a proven, top notch Head Coach and get a great staff for him that can coach and are great recruiters will be more BIG $$$$$.
The only place to get HUGE $$$$ to attempt to bribe a good HC and a solid staff to come to Tennessee is from our boosters and I don't see them throwing that kind of HUGE $$$$ our way especially with a brand new AD even if it's Blackburn.
We can borrow $$$ to build buildings but NOT for a buyout or hiring coaches and we still don't have the kind of spare $$$ laying around like most other programs have.
We're still boxed into a bad corner no matter how we look at things.
Some days reality just really sucks, LOL!
Just keep praying that buTch and staff can keep recruiting top players.

This is the point I was making, if only UT had some big boosters.
I agree Wolfe!I'm sure we do have some big boosters, but people are crazy thinking we can't afford that buyout. We were one of, if not the most, profitable schools in the NCAA last year. The coffers aren't bare, and our SEC network share alone is more than enough to chuckle at that buyout. Now, boosters or not, it is true that we always go mid-major bargain bin shopping for coaches and it's annoying. It's like they can't understand that perception is part of reality and you have to at least look like you're committed to being a power player. I'm hoping the new leadership coming in realizes that with football success, the money flows in rivers. Fingers crossed, knock on wood that if CBJ continues to coach his way into the toilet that we get a quality coach next go round.
Depends on who they hire and the make up of the BOT. Doug Dickey resurrected UT football through the check book. Fundraising had really slid, and Dickey worked the fan base and laid the foundation for multiple stadium expansions, TBA, and a top notch practice facility. Something many thought UT would never spend money on.We (the university of Tennessee) will not pay that kind of money for a coach. We are just not going to do it. Everyone needs to understand that.
